Hello all. Most of you are new on this board, I assume. I used to post pretty hardcore here, and slowly faded out. I, like others lost enthusiasm for my maverick that hadn't seen the street in ten years +. With every growing day, it got fusterating that I just couldn't do anything with it. the car became a literal shelf in my garage to store endless amount of crap on. Very soon, I realized how much space was IN the car, and started storing everything in it too.

Many of you old timers still know me. Time has finally come. I've been chatting with my mother (who is the original owner of this car) and she has officially committed to helping with the restoration cost. This begins by her paying for the bodywork on the car. Before I do ANYTHING, I wanted the bodywork taken care of, which consists of some rust, and dings, etc. (see my post in the cosmetic section)

Anyhow, I've been chatting with a repitable shop locally, that specialized in a mustangs, and fords. It's nearly certain I'll have him perform the bodywork on the car.

what will be done to it??

    -it's currently a factory 302 2 door 72. It's getting the following:

-grabber hood (i've had this waiting for 15 years) and the tail fin pieces which I still need

-I may ditch a lot of the chrome, including the side mouldings, chrome roof mouldings, and "possibly" the door handles

-drivetrain will consist of a rebuilt late model 5.0 roller block, possibly with a small cam. It's got ported e7's, and will be topped off with the wieand stealth intake that I have, and a carburator of choice (in the future, possible efi, but not for now). that engine will be mated to my c4.

As soon as this project starts, I'll flood you with pictures, and no doubt, I'll have a billion questions about what I should do, and what you think about modifications..

I look forward to this build. I'll keep in touch..Jeremy

    questions:

-has anyone used the aftermarket grabber tail fin parts before? I've seen the pieces sold, but haven't ever looked into them.

-I dig the original bench seat, does anyone make an exact, or nearly exact upholstery match kit to refinish my old front seat?? (rears are still ok)

-is the heater core still produced?

I'll search many of these questions, as I'm largely thinking aloud too.

Try S&M Fabrics up in OR for the material. If anynody has it, they will. Heater cores are available from most any parts store. I have also seen them on Ebay. Good Luck!!

Jeremy, good luck on the restoration. It sounds like you have lots of big things planned.
I work at a parts plus and we have the heater core available for $35 to $47 depening on if you have factory air or not. Anyone near you should be able to get you one. have fun and keep us all posted!

My 73 4dr sat in my garage for 10 years straight pretty much, except for a once a year startup that's about it, I have just a few months ago was able to get the car running again, still along way from a restoration. I also used it as a shelf in my garage.

Sounds awesome, but the crome is a major staple in the look of the car. You should try to keep it or find replacement parts.

I'm not a big fan of bling chrome. Certain tastefull spots, hell yea.

However, on the mouldings, on the drip rails, door handles, that's WAY too much, and looks too 70 and early 80ish.

i'd likely delete it all, but keep the chrome bumpers, as I do like those, and MAYBE chrome door handles.

Which reminds me, i've got to pm that body guy as I plan on meeting with him on thur. I'll keep you all updated, thanks!!
