My first Maverick was a 1969-1/2, which I bought in the Spring or Summer of '69. It was the $1995 stripped down model. I paid extra for an AM Radio and $7 for a flipping rear view mirror, which was required in New York State at the time. I never used "night" setting and never liked it. With tax and license my first Maverick came to around $2200.

I traded in the '69 in 1975, for a new 1976. That one had a lot more options, Air, Automatic trans, 250 CID 6, AM/FM radio, I may have had the LDO option too. It was over $3K. I kept that one only 3 years, and bought a Saab 900. But I wanted another Maverick, so in 1983 I bought a 1973 four door in good condition for $2000. I kept that one for 10 years and sold it for $500 in 1993.

I paid $3000 for my current Grabber. It's in pretty good condition, but needs work. I probably overpaid by $500, but it was too nice a car to pass up and only one hour away from home. Maybe if the car were in Georgia or Ohio it would have been a lot cheaper, but than it would cost $800-1000 to ship it to California. So you have to add location into the price calculation.

    Purchase Price: $1,100
Purchase Date: Feb. 7th 1984 (Happy Birthday Comet GT)
    Mileage: 117,000 and change
    Condition: Ran fine, mechanically sound
Paint: slightly faded, several coats of rubbing and polishing compound along with wax got it shiny again.
Interior: carpet was faded-dyed it. Drivers seat had a couple of tears, recovered later.
Other: missing one center cap. Other than that it was 100% stock, door dings included!

I bought my first 71 Grabber in Jan of 1974 for $1500 and still have it. The most I have ever paid for any of my Mavericks is the 74 LDO I recently purchased out of Cal for $5300. I don't mind it too much because this is an immaculate unrestored rustfree car and my insurance company paid more than that when Katrina flooded my blue car. Seeing how I'm saving my blue car for about $1000 and some labor it's kinda like I got the LDO (and a 72 Sprint) for free.

    Gotta love them Mavericks! :)

Katrina actually flooded all four of my 71 Grabbers, a 74 I had just purchased as a parts car and a 70 Boss 302 Mustang which was disassembled in my garage...not to mention almost nine feet of water in my house and 4 feet in the body shop I run. Of course all of my cars were in these two locations. But that's okay, these are all just things. All of my family and friends are okay and life goes on. I plan on being back at Round-Up this year and having just as much fun as ever. (y)

My dad paid $1300 for mine in 1981. Bought it from the original owner with 68,000 miles on it. he bought it originally to use as a 2nd car for himself, but I quickly became attached to it and he eventually gave it to me...

Bought my Yellow & Black 75 Grabber in Dec "87" for 1 Franklin from a used C***y dealership just south of town where I live, pretty much the way you see it in this years calendar(June), except tires.
The Yellow & Black Stallion I got for 1 Cleveland from LA.
