From what I understand TFI means Thick Film Ignition, but don't hold me to that. I just went to Auto Zone and ordered a coil for a 1989 F350 with a 460, and an ignition module for a 1978 Camaro with a 350 (should have seen the look on the dudes face when I ordered both of these at the same time, I think he thought I had lost my mind ;) ). The whole point is just to get a hotter, more reliable spark. I put my ignition system together mostly with help from this site: http://www.gofastforless.com./

By points I mean inside of the distributor. The starter has nothing to do with your ignition system, or gas mileage for that matter.

I'm still in high school also, but you gotta think and act on your own feet, not let others sway you. :)

Is that like race fuel cost or something? I felt like I was paying 6 dollars a gallon before, but it was actually only 3 dollars, FOR REGULAR UNLEADED!!!

    A 302 is actually a 301.5936 CI
bored .030 over would give you a CI of 306.14
bored .040" over would give you a CI of 307.6654
The formula is 3.14(PI)R squared times the stroke times the number of cylinders
    example a 302 has a bore of 4" and a stroke of 3" So you take (3.14X4)x3x8

BTW my 250 gets me about 18 mpg and the 289 gets me about 10mpg

yep, sunoco purple. about 106 octane. i've got a guy that's going to bring me a 55 gal. drum for $290. that'll knock it down to about $5.25. that's the cost of racing. :)

Interestingly, mine gets about 20-ish mpg on the highway if I accellerate slowly and keep it at 60mph. But, if I gun it, I can burn 1/4 tank in about 5 miles (about a gallon per mile?).

I have stock rotating assembly, moderate cam, single plane intake, and 3.80 gears. I always attributed the good mpg to having a pretty good bit of power but pushing a light car, and not needing all that much gas to get it going and keep it at 60.

Of course, I know EXACTLY why i get the 1 gallon per mile when I gun it...that is the way I built it to run :evilsmile The 20mpg highway is just an accidental benefit.

When mine was my driver I averaged around 18-20 on the highway with the original 302, 2.79 rear, and larger than stock diameter tires. With the upgraded motor, 3.40 gears, and stock diameter tires, I averaged a little over 15 mpg on the 16 hour round trip to the Roundup last year. (At 65-70 mph, 3500 rpm gets old after a few hours. :D )

Ok here is the email that the guy I bought the car from sent me:
"I bored the engine 30 over. Also I put a mildly bigger cam in it, but I don't remember witch one. I replace all the pistons, rods, bearings, gaskets, had the seats in the heads replaced. I don't remember if I replaced the valves or not. So I pretty much replaced everything every thing you should replace when you rebuild an engine."

So what is the Cubic Inch???

PINKY does about as good as MAVMAN's :D

When I drove the yellow one to Springfield, Missouri. I had done a minor tune-up and the carb was/is in bad shape. The wife followed in the Focus and I was putting 6-7 more gallons in the maverick everytime we stopped to fill up.

:hmmm: I believe that makes yours a 308 (2ci for every 0.10 over)

By the way, my gas mileage is great !! Kinda hard to use it when the Mav's on jackstands !!:biglaugh:
