    heres some pics of some "cleaning" and "inspecting" ive done to my comet so far, tis a 73 with 302, c4. ive pulled the heads to see how everything looked since previous owner didnt know about it, also is later model engine, how can i find out what year it was made? put trans filter in it, new oil pan gasket,new water pump, cap rotor, plugs ,wires, got new aluminum radiator, alum intake, 4 brl, elec fan, and soon long tubes. also found i had 3 bent rods! enjoy and post any neg/pos feedback. o and engine will be painted ford blue.

    Uhh, how did you "clean" the heads?

    stuck them in the parts washer, then got out the grinding/buff wheel thing and cleaned all the flat surfaces, took small wire brush and used that for the valves and inside comb chambers

    And I assume you are planning to have these machined to bring the gasket surface back level?

    The casting date is cast on the block, near the casting number (behind the starter).

    Missing my old '70 Maverick
    I noticed that too. Nothing a BFH and a flat garage floor won't take of. ;)
