Was kind of pondering this question for a long time now. Even for other makes of cars too, a Mav or Comet on a complete tube chassis with either a Ford or, God forbid, GM engine. Should they be called something else, especially the "glass" bodied one's. With the weight advantage and other non production add on's, seems a bit one sided when getting a trophy at car shows or race tracks. Guess that is why they have different classes and such for most of them. Kind of like the NASCAR deal where most run the same chassis, and even the same engines. Sure not like the old days anymore.

tube chassis, glass body=no maverick parts, therefore definitely not a production car. is it a maverick? loosely-yes;really-no.:)

I hear that. I think they should be required to put a safety cage setup into a stock car, even a safer chair if it is really necessary. other than that they should have to work with what the factory gave them for any "stock" classification. anything else should be considered a modified racer class. the engines could be pumped still, but only with bolt ons and it would have to be what the factory offered for that car. no escort with a 460 please. they should have a seperate gasser class for circle track and drag that isnt called "stock", that allows all the mods. of course id like to see more F-1 style course races so im a little wierd like that.

    Yeah... pro-stock... STOCK. HA! :D

On the original question... if it has a real Maverick body I'll call it a Maverick whether it has been welded on a tube frame or sits on the some other platform. I'm pretty generous though. Just don't try to call it stock. :D

i hear you...back in my "Harley" days they had Harley drag bikes. not a one of them had a "stock" Harley part, bolt or wire on it.
what ever time or speed they ran was not ran with a "Harley" :tsk:.
same way with the "Show" bikes. not a stock part on there :tsk:.

    Curious question

These were popular around Durham when I was in high school.

Yes, VW engines, but NC inspected them under motorcycle quidelines,
they had the cute small motorcycle inspection stickers that had to be
mounted on a piece of plexiglas if there was no windshield.

    I've had a few
Man, that would be cool to have one of those and be able to drive it on the street! I don't think the Maverick would be getting much exercise in the summer months if I had something like that. :)

Looks like a Maverick call it a Maverick, just not a stock one.

NASCAR=crap for the most part, too much BIG money, too much politics, not anywhere near "stock" cars, and if a driver shows or says what he is feeling--he gets a fine:tsk: , I love watching classic NASCAR races-cars still had steel bumpers on them, drivers didn't even wear gloves, or driver suits(which I understand the need for). More of a drivers sport, than a wind tuinnel tested business endeavor back then.
