Hi everyone' Well, I'm new to this forum stuff, so have patience. I recently aquired a 72 two door 6cyl auto mav. Its farely clean, except for surface rust under the vinyl roof. also receiveved a 73 4door comet v8 auto with bad trans. My plan is to swap all the v8 componets over (5lug stuff also) to the '72. So my question is will the auto trans behind the 6cyl work with the V8. Do I need a different torgue converter? Once the swap is over, all of the 73 comet will be available. Thanks for your input; Rob
If the six banger is a 250 CI then it will bolt up.. It is better that you use a V8 - C4 than 1 from the 250.. The 250 C4 wont ussually last to long.. You might be able to trade the 6 banger and trans for a good C4 to some 1 here who wants to retain the 6 for cheap fuel and transportation.. Usually not a big demand for 6 banger engines..Some stock car people want the lg 6 for their race cars, hobbie cars etc.. hope this all helps. RON
Howdy and to the board. Well, not really. It depends on how potient your motor is. I ran a c4 from a 250 behind a fairly stock 289 for over 5 years with no problems and I drive them hard including some strip time. The 289 was stock except for a 4 bbl intake and carb. If the trans is in good shape, you can add a shift kit to it for less than $50 will improve its performance and make it last longer.
i have no idea what the c-4's i use are from. once they get rebuilt, i figure there all the same anyway.
welcome to the board. what condition are the cars in? maybe you should put the 6 in the four door and use that as a daily driver, family car and the two door can be your cruising v8? c-4 is a strong enough tranny for a stock 302, but since you have a spare you could build one up then build the other up. either way, glad to have you aboard.
