a 347 or stroked 351 will eat the FE block all day long, and get better gas mileage while doing it. yes an efi can be built to be fast, but dollar for dollar youll get more speed for your dollar with the windsor block. I love my FE, but for offroad and towing. so does someone make an FE EFI conversion system? link?
Carb all the way!Way cheaper than an EFI coversion(EFI's over my head, truth be told)and besides that, why would you want to complicate "the simple machine" ?Go with an AOD and a mild converter and some 3.80's out back.
can I run an internal pump, then run all the efi lines, but use them for a carb'd application? that may be ideal, and I can convert in the future, what do you think?
Sure can. I used a Mallory 3 port regulator with the HP feed and return lines. It came with 3 different springs for different pressures and used a set screw to fine tune it. I ran a carb'd 350 off of a TPI fuel system for about 2 years before I sold the car. Never had any hiccups and it ran mid 13s. I also put in a holley electric FP gauge to make sure nothing funny happened driving down the road. As far as an FE efi kit, I'm sure somone makes a manifold with injector bosses in it. If nothing else, you can always put a TBI on a square bore manifold. It's not as good as multi-point, but it's still better than a carb for driveability.
