    Hello,
I have a 79 302 2v that i have ressurected after being stored in a 79 tbird for 15 years.....upon running it at first the timing chain jumped, chain replaced and runs again and it kinda runs rough....i have an aftermarket electric fuel pump installed...pumps fuel nicely, but the point is.....it starts and runs great for about 2 minutes and then, it acts like it runs out of gasoline and dies, and it takes a few minutes of cranking to start back.....after it starts back it suns rough again then idles great again for a few minutes and same old thing......acts like it runs out of fuel, Can someone walk me through with this problem.....I'm on vacation this week and im seriousely wanting to drive this car to work after i go back

Hard to say. My old truck did that when I first got it and it turned out to be the float sticking open and giving it to much gas. I'd pull a plug and see if it looks fouled out.

that was my first thiught to check and see if the floats are sticking. sounds like it could be running on the fuel in the bowl, then starving out. make sure there aren't any kinks in the fuel line. :)

that is what i would do if they are not fouled then drive it till it dies and check your pump to see how hot it is it might not be big enough.

fuel filter, trash in gas tank stopping up the screen on sending unit, float in carb...sometimes trash in the gas tank gets sucked into the sending unit screen restricting the flow until it dies...at this point the trash settles back to the bottom of the tank til it gets sucked up again...could be any or all of the above...Jim in memphis...

Sure enough....float was stuck and pump was just filling bowl enough to run for the initial 2 minutes before death.....How hard to rebuild a 2 barell?

Like building a snap together model-but you still need to read and follow instructions:D :drink:
As it dies try to shoot some carb cleaner in the carb to rule out fuel problem

maybe there is a hole in the line, probally somewhere back by the rear end or maybe even check the choke.

Ok......Rebuilt carb with little help from a friend....Pieced together nicely and runs a heck of a whole lot better....Got to the AutoZone today and also got enough vacuum line to get my vacuum advance hooked up....But...now heres the but...Runs great at idle, but once you drop it down into gear it detonates a whole lot...Tried to move distrubitor around and same old thing intil FINALLY a few minutes ago she locked up tight...vaporlocked maybe??? Finally got balzy enough to drive it 2 miles or so to the gas station for a fill up, and only stalled once but other than that did good...Detonated at idle in gear and had trouble with power....Any ideas fellas?
