One more thing I thought of.The driveshaft from a 1995 Mustang GT fits perfect in the Maverick.If you have the 8" rear.The only thing you have to change is the rear u-joints.The 8" has the small diameter and the Mustang has the large.I had a set that has both sizes on the joint.Put them in and stuck the drive shaft in trans.When I measured it,I had about 1 to 1.25 inches of play in the yoke at the trans.It saved me from having to have a custom shaft made.Just thought I would mention this.A 1994 will work also as long as it was a 5.0 with a T-5.
I don't know about Fox body Mustangs.I had a driveshaft in my garage from a 95,I just tried it by accident and it fit perfect.I think that maybe Fox bodies might be different,because if I remember correctly,Ford Motorsports sells aluminum shafts,and I think they have a different part number,I could be wrong though,its been awhile since I have looked at one of their catalogs.96 and later might fit too,I'll have to check that out when I get a chance.If I had some extra money,I would buy one of the aluminum shafts for my Maverick.
Well, Ford Performance lists this: M-4602-G Driveshaft Fits 1979-95 Mustang/Capri 5.0L vehicles with T-5/SROD/C-4/A0D, 1979-93 with Tremec transmissions and 7.5" or 8.8" axles. 28 spline yoke M-4635-A U-Joint Kit consists of a hybrid 1310/1330 series cross, plus (4) 1.0625" OD and (2) 1.125" OD caps and locking clips Allows small and large Ford drivetrain components to be interchanged could this be all that is needed?
The reason that I wasn't for sure is I know there is a difference in the T-5's in 94-95.I think the input is 5/8" longer,but apparently the trans case is the same length.Looks like those are all the right pcs.Good Luck.
I have a 9' in the car but i will have the trans crossmember finished tomorrow,then all i'll have to do is drop the center section in.I have a couple of fox body shafts heer and i will try one i'll let you guys know if it works.Derek.
That's true for T5s that came in Mustangs. If you have an aftermarket version like my 95, it's the same input shaft length as the early models. You need to be aware of where the trans came from.
Dereck,I noticed you say you have a 9" in your car.Mine had an 8", I don't know if that will change any dimensions.The center line dimension of an 8" to u-joint at the end of the pinion might be different from a 9".Maybe someone here knows or you can check if you have an 8" laying around.Just throwing that out there,because I know it works on an 8" not sure about the 9".
In my case I needed a shorter driveshaft with the 9", don't remember how much shorter than stock. You don't know until you measure with the car sitting at ride height. Depending on engine placement (forward, rearward, tail housing up or down) and if the rear is jacked up or lowered all make a difference. Install the slip yoke into the trans so that it's 1"-1 1/2" from bottoming out. Measure from the center of the u-joint to the rear's pinion u-joint center.
