Hey guys. I just thought I would pass on some information about getting parts re-chromed. A couple of weeks ago I took my Mav bumper down to have it re-chromed at the local shop which I didn't even know was here till I started asking around. They do custom show quality chrome only, a true triple plate process. I learned alot about plating and there is a huge difference in quality depending on where and how you have it plated. I was so thrilled with the quality and look of my bumper that I thought some of you might want to try them out also. The place is Decorative Industrial Plating in Helena Montana. After talking with the owner he said he would pass on a 10% discount through this summer for anyone plating Maverick parts. My bumper was $400 so you would probably be looking at $360 to have yours done. This was more expensive than some of the other places I have looked at but in the end I thought it was worth it, the depth of the finish in my bumper is incredible. If you are only doing a daily driver bumper it might be worth getting it done somewhere else cheaper. I hope this doesn't sound to much like an advertisement (which I guess it is) but I am truly impressed and wanted to pass on the info. I am not getting any kind of commission or money for this. Their number is (406) 449-6626 ask for Paul or John. From what I have seen with my parts you might want to give them a shot.

That is more than double what TriCity charges. Is it worth that?

Not sure if it is worth it or not. I was looking at bumpers from Bumper Depot and a couple of other places. They were much cheaper and are great for a daily driver but this bumper is more like a mirror and is very deep it is VERY easy to see the differenc...still it is just a bumper. My understanding of the process is that most places do not use a true copper plate to start out with. If you don't you don't get as smooth of a finish (they polish the copper to a mirror finish before going any further) and the other metals do not stick as well and will be peeling in a year or so. I am not sure, but if they say they use a copper strike it is not a true copper dip. All I can say is that I have seen a lot of bumpers and none I have seen compare to this one. If it is worth the extra money...I really can't say but I am happy.

    Dennis,

I checked out Tri-city Plating online and they look like they have high quality plating also. If they are half the price, I would be very tempted to check them out.

Yea, I dont know what the difference is. Not trying to bust your bubble but I have used TriCity and am very pleased with their work. Guess you'd have to put them side by side to see any difference. Since you are knowledgable about chromming now, maybe a freindly call to TriCity would see if they use the same process.

    Dennis,

I called Tri-City and inquired a little bit about their process. They use a different process than a true show triple plate, they use what is called a double nickel plate. I don't know if it is good/bad/doesn't matter. They do not use copper in their plating. They use a double nickel dip and then the chrome. Not copper - nickel - chrome. The locals here tell me that the copper is what gives the depth and smoothness to the process because that is where they do all the polishing and filling of imperfections. There is a difference, it just might not be worth if for most people.

OK.....that would definately explain the cost difference. Probably makes it worth the money. I guess its another one of those "depends on what you want" deals. Thanks for the info.
