Hi, Everyone Im New here and just bought my first 1971 Comet GT last night!! Wow are we tired after a 19hour trip. Let me share my story. We (my GF and I ) have been looking for a 1971 Comet GT. Thats all we wanted, after considering several other years and even thought about a maverick, we found a guy who had a Yellow 71 Comet GT in Georgia. The photos were pretty poor quality, infact looked like the 1980's style photos, could'nt make out any detail from them. Of course after talking to the guy on the phone, he made it seem as it was a deal in a lifetime. Anyhow I thought for the price it would be a good fixer upper and it fell right in the range I wanted 4K to 6K. Sunday morning at 11:00am we get into the car and drove 80+mph to his house. 500miles and 7 hours later we arrived. We pulled into what looked like an 8000 sq ft house or more. This guys lot was so big he had his own lake in the back yard. We were greeted by someone claiming he wasnt the owner, but the owner would be there soon, and said follow me and I'll show you the car. As were going he said the owner babies all his cars, bla bla bla bla. Were thinking ok now....sounds like a car salesman. When we saw this car it was unbelievable. He said the owner put about 8K into it, New paint, tires, brakes, all new rubber, seals, new carpet, interior, custom box made so the speakers didnt cut into the door panels. We started the car and it sounded awesome, Headers with dual exhaust going into flow masters, not too loud but deep and powerful sounding. We bought the car on site and drove it 500miles back home. We arrived back to Tampa Monday morning 6:30am just in time to drive it straight to work This is the first Comet I ever drove and never realized how sporty they are, the only thing I wished is that I had bought one years ago. Actually I never even heard of a Comet until this year. It was the body lines and looks that made me want one. Well, I havent slept since saturday night so pardon me if any typo's or mistakes im still kinda wired from drinking about six 2-liter pepsi's. couldnt post photos here for some reason After opening dont forget to click on the photo to expand it large http://hotrodders.com/gallery/uploads/16924/Picture_208.jpg http://hotrodders.com/gallery/uploads/16924/Picture_209.jpg Ben
Ben; welcome to the board! Very nice car you have there. Good luck with it, and don't be a stranger, stick around and keep us up to date. Later, Earl
The engine compartment looks great but the motor looks old. Its the only thing this guy didnt do was clean up the motor. The motor in it is a 92 roller motor swapped to a carb/cam/headers. But he also included a 1973 Comet GT parts car and the original 1971 motor for mine. Im supposed to go back in 2 weeks to pick it all up.
Nice ride dude! Doesn't look like you need any of them parts from the donar so, if you decide to sell any of it, it would give me a reason to visit my dad . You do live in Tampa Fl.?
Yep, Tampa, Florida Not really sure what I'm going to do with the 73 body. I was thinking about stripping it down to the shell then doing all the metal work, priming, and selling it as just a flawless showcar quality shell, but i would probably have too much into it. Or maybe tubing it. Im not sure what type of market there is for this kind of a car. Probably better off to just sell it as is.
Congrats Ben...absolutely beautiful car there. You did really good by getting one of Georgia cars out of there...I'm proud of you. They got WAY too many of these cars in Ga.
to the board. Nice looking Comet you got there. Glad to see more Comets on the board. You did good.....
