A 1973 Maverick. 3 on the tree and a 302. What a blast to drive. I actually learned how to drive on a paved road in a 1964 Falcon 4 door. Then came the Maverick. It was my Dads car and he let me drive it. He was kind enough to let ME replace the clutch (I figured since I did smoke it out of the car to begin with I might as well replace it). My Dad paid for the parts and I provided the sweat equity so I could drive it again after I finished the clutch job. He should have never told me to "drive it like I stole it".

I can also remember my Dad having a Comet that had an I6 in it. The car had a bad rod and the old man went to the junkyard and pulled a piston and rod, threw it in and put another 50,000 on the engine before it finally gave up the ghost. My mother was never really good at checking the oil. Still isn't.

I guess I'm about as close to Dennis as you can get. I bought my 1st Maverick (71 Grabber) 32 years ago (1974) at age 18 and still have it. I am the 2nd owner. It's getting ready to go through a 100% restoration and will be very similar to Dan Himes red 71 Grabber when finished, except it is Grabber Green. It has factory bucket seats, 302, and C4. I would have probably put off the resto another year or two but Hurricane Katrina has moved it up the line a little on the priority list. She was completely submerged. I should have my blue Grabber back on the road in about a month (also Katrina-ized) and then I should be able to start on my green one. It's my favorite and always will be. :)

The first Comet I had was in 1995. It was a 74 Comet LDO, 250 cu in, C-4, floor shift. It was a bucket of rust, but never let me down. Finally retired it & parted it out, in 2001. Then I found the 73 Comet I have now, got it in 1999, I'm the second owner. Have done a complete restomod on it, which I finished this year (6 yrs total). Couldn't stand to not drive it for very long, that's why 6 years to complete. It kinda becomes a disease. I have 2 Mavericks & 4 Comets now. I think I need help.....

My first Maverick/Comet was a new 71 Comet GT. I ordered it in Feb. 71. It was Black with silver stripes. Handling suspension package. 302 2v am radio 645x14 tires which were replaced after 700 miles with E70x14 tire on 7" Keystone Classics. I paid $2800.00 for it. Iwas a dummy and traded it for a new 1975 Mercury Montego. 460 engine. I have owned a 71 maverick(totaled). A1977 Maverick 250 I6 aotumatic. Now have a 72 Comet GT Green and a 72 Comet GT clone Black W/silver stripes.

I bought my maverick in september 2005. I think I'm at least the 20th owner. The car has seen some very rough times, but she'll be back better than ever eventually. It started out life as a september 1969 2 dr. I6 auto (don't know what size). It looks like it still has the original ugly green paint. You can check out my cardomain site for pics and stuff.

My uncle bought his first maverick in '73 and I believe it was a blue grabber. This car got the 302 boss and muncie 4 speed and 4.11:1 gears that liked to snap off axles. He eventually rolled that car on a country road and totalled it. Then my grandpa bought a 302 auto maverick that my dad totalled driving back from night school when he fell asleep. I think that was it for the mavericks.

It was a '72 Grabber. I got it when I was 17 in 1976 from a family friend who bought it new. I was stupid and sold it in 1979/80 to buy a Lancia Scorpion. Lucky for me I sold it to a friends mother, who passed it on to him. I bought the car back from him last December. It needs some work to be road worthy but it will be a labor of love.

1971 ford maverick. found it sitting next to a barn in Fearsville, Kentucky when i was on active duty for the Army National Guard in 2002-2003 for Operation Enduring Freedom

had to rebuild the wheel cylinders and shocks and remove the boat tank out of the trunk and put a regular tank in its spot. and a few other things needed fixing, like alternator, tires, battery, some wires.. etc

but it runs great now, just not very good on the eyes

A 2 door 1976 Maverick, 250 auto, power steering and manual disk brakes. I got it from my neighbour for free in exchange for cutting his grass. I ended cutting the grass for many years after I no longer had the car!
