somehow, one of my friends get some type of sticker where they dont have to go through inspections. According to him, his car wont pass inspection because of modifications.( it is an Acura that supposedly has more than 200+ horses and I have seen it get 10,000 rpms in I think 3rd gear) ALL the mechanic does is get the info from the door jamb and thats it, presto! SUPPOSEDLY this is legal . One dude even told me he can get the stickers without even having insurance! Is there any truth to this?
My vehicles grandfather was a 32 Ford Coupe...poor thing, he's done gone to that big car show in the sky.
In CA we don't really have inspections, just smog. Even then, only 30 year old cars and newer have to be smogged. So this year 1976 and newer have to be smogged, next year 1977 and newer, etc...
No inspection Sticker in NY, means a ticket really quick, there is no grandfather rule here. Either it passes or it doesn't.:evilsmile
here in tenn. my 72 had to be inspected every year..course it always passed. Used to have an inspector that for 20 bucks would pass anything on wheels , but he got caught and fired...
In NY, it's harder for mechanics to be registered inspector's anymore. In 2003 they were all forced to buy this $6000 machine that links up all the shops to the DMV's central computer, so they know ever time an inspection is issued. Also, the stickers are now barcoded so if a trooper/cop stops you and your car is bad, like they see a light out or balding tires, and your sticker is really recent the trooper can scan the sticker and see who issued it. So, gone are the days of the $20 "slap-a-sticker" in the window and have a beer days.:evilsmile
No inspection at all in OK. Although I have seen some guys take it a little too far with the safety stuff.
IN MD you can register 20 yr or older cars as "classic". This exempts you from Emission inspections. Or put a diesel in it.
