I am going to the swap meet tomorrow, and looking for new rims. I always thought my used Cragars (purchased for $100 for the set of 4!!!) were 15X8 and 15X7. I took them off today, and measured them and found them ALL to be 15X8, but with 4-1/4" backspace on the rear, and 4" BS on the front. If you look at the pictures, the front one has a slow rounded face, while the rear has a double-stepup face, and looks much deeper. I run 245/60r15 rear and 215/60r15 front, and want to go 255 rear, and stay 215 or 225 on front. Do these measurements on the rims sound correct? 15X8 both front and back? Would I be better off with a 15X7 if I want to stay this wide on the front or should I stay with the same sizes I have now? I assume that if I went 15X7 front and put the 215s on there, they would sit taller and narrower than they do on the 15X8 rim. I measured from lip edge to lip edge with a straightedge across, and found the the bolt pattern is 5X4.5 from the forum. I will look for either 4-1/4 or 4" BS for the rear so I can fit the 255s in there...It appears that I could fit 255 on the current rims, but would not have too much space left over.
I have 235/60r15s in the front on 7" rims and 255/60r15 on the rear on 8" rims. I forget the offset on the repro Magnums though....
I couldn't get 235 on my front, without hitting the fender at the front during turns. Maybe if I had the 7" rims, it wouldn't hit? If nothing else, should be less rotating mass at the front for better takeoffs... Max, I really like the look on your car, good even proportions, yet big enough to look beefy and grab the road. I was hoping to fit 225 front and 255 rear, when it is all said and done. Not too narrow up front, and not too wide out back.
Max, The 15x8 Magnums have a 4-1/2" backspace. How do yours not rub on the frame?? The 14x7" and 15x7" Magnums are 4-1/4 backspace. Scoop, just put a set of Magnums on there and be done with it...
I found all kinds of good stuff at the swap meet, but nothing worth the effort. There was a set of Cragar 15X8 (exactly what I have now) with the spinners, $200 for two. There were a couple sets of centerline 15X8 and (I think) 15X8.5 with 4" backspacing, but they would only sell all four, again for $200 and $250. I figure for that kind of money, I could buy two NEW rims, EXACTLY what size I want, and no guessing, so I just bought a chrome upper radiator hose fitting thingy (attaches to the intake manifold) and a couple of snow cones, and that was about it.
Scooper 15x8 Cragar's 3'' back space,255 60 15's fits my car perfect.Just cut the centers out of the Cragars today to weld in a stock center so i can run dog dish hubcaps with a 15x8 wheel. Not the best pic but it's all i have for now.Derek.
