I have all new disk brake parts in the frount of my comet and they are starting to squeal but only after driving for a while. I took them all apart and checked to make sure everything was tight and installed right, and they were. I have new rotors, new pads, new bearings, new ball joints, new calipers, new hoses, even new control arms. Its really starting to get bad, it doesnt sound like the metal on metal that old pads make its a real high pitch squeal. I cant figure it out, i even when out and bought a differnt brand pads to make sure it stoped for about a week then came back.

There are several things that can cause brakes to squeal, and not neccessarily metal-on-metal. Dirt that gets trapped between the pads/shoes and rotors/drums can cause it, vibration from pads that are not tight on the calipers can cause it, and just plain cheap-ass pads/shoes can cause it. My first suggestion to you would be to make sure that everything is clean and tight...

I thought that might of been the problem as well i took them all apart and washed them with brake clean, and the still do the same thing. Im thinking heat has something to do with it. I can go out and drive around town with it for 15 to 20 minutes with not squeal at all then it starts getting worse quick. At first it will only make a short squeak then get worse untill the point where when ever i touch the brakes it squeals.

Did you put the anti-squeal stuff on the back of the pads. High frequency vibrations are often the problem, that stuff dampens the vibrations.

when you changed the pads did you install new anti rattle clips on the pads? Sometimes the clips get week and they will not rattle but they will squeel like a gut shot rabbit. Might be something to check

You might have to describe this part to me..... i just put them togeather the way they came. is it that little thing that you have to have to knock out and it held in place by a little allan key bolt.

This is a pic of the clip. When you install them on the inside pad make shure they are on the bottom of the pad (the end that is pointing to the ground) That will put preload on the pad tward the rotor rotation and should take care of your problem.

How can a brake make squealing noises without the brake being applied?

Had a problem once with new discs that squealed like a banshee everytime you pressed the pedal. Ended up being a hard spot on the rotor that had to be resurfaced.

If they did not have them on the old pads you need to buy a set. They cost like $2.00

    brake squealing

lets stop the brake squealing with an old school trick.

The squared off end of the brake pad sits at a 90* angle to the rotor. This makes a sound like a new stick of chalk held on its end and moved across a chalkboard.:eek:

To fix this take a file and taper the leading edge of all brake pads. This will work on brake shoes as well.

Most but not all new pads come this way new. as old pads ware they will get past the taper and start to squeal, then its time to do this again.

hear is a pic of a new pad with the taper.
