I just discovered that for a 1974 Maverick with disc brakes the correct backing plates have a C9OZ prefix which I believe is a 1969 Fairlane part #. When I do a search on the shields for a Fairlane I see folks selling the 1968-1973 repop Mustangs plates as working on Fairlanes, Montego's and Mustangs. Is it possible that the 74 Maverick used different backing plates than 75-77 Mavericks? I'm pretty sure I have read that Mustang Backing plates don't fit on Maverick Spindles but perhaps they don't fit 75-77 but will fit a 74. Anybody have both to compare?

I would really have to see the splash shields side by side ... I found some NOS splash shields with the same part number that Green sales gave me for the 74 Maverick with Disc brakes. The seller indicated they were for a 68/69 Fairlane and Torino.

The part number for the 74 Disc brake Spindle is different than the part # for the 75-77 Spindle as well.

I'm going to take my 74 Spindles and splash shields to Mustangs Unlimited one day and see if the repop 68-73 Mustangs Splash shields will work since they cross with the Torino/Fairline part number for the splash shields ...

Here is the pic from Mustangs Unlimited. I guess if they do truly fit there may be an advantage to using 74 specific spindles ...

This is all being done to replace the rusty splash shields on the 74 disc brake setup I just bought ..

Hey Dan, I have 2 sets of Spindels, one set is off of a 75 Comet and the other is off a 76 Maverick it would be nice if a Mustang set would fit.

Geeze, that one from mustangs unlimited looks like a pretty crappy piece. Could they be any more wrinkled?

I have determined why the Fairlane and Maverick part # is the same. Green sales gave me the part # for the DRUM BRAKE BACKING PLATE .. not the splash shield for a disc brake car. I'll have to call again on Monday and have them look it up again.

I'm a little late on this discussion, but I just ran across the thread. I have reproduced the Maverick/Granada type slash shilelds. They are the type used on 74-77 Maverick and 75-80 Granada. I was wondering if anyone knows the Ford part number for these. I'm in the process of reproducing the 68-73 Mustang type shields.

Dan, I have the Ford Parts Book but it is for 65-72 cars. What it does show though is that the 69-71 Fairlanes and Torinos use the same part as the 69 - 72 Mustangs, C9OZ2K004-A & 5A (R&L). I can't tell what the 74 Maverick part number is, my book doesn't go that far.

I have a set of the Stang/Fairlane/Montego discs laying on the floor next to a set of Maverick discs at the shop.
Did you want me to compare back plates for you?
