I'm looking for info on a particular type of Maverick. I copied down the info on the plate inside the door. Here is what I got. Body 54A VEH ID # 2k92F177153 color 3B Trim BB Trans W Axle 3 DSO 27 type Passenger anyone who can tell me more about what this info means, or can give me a site that can decode it, would be a great help.
Since it's a 72 try this link below. Most of the info is the same as 1970, but engine options, etc changed a bit. In a nutshell you have a 1972 Maverick 4 door with a 302 V8 and C4 transmission. The rear axle ratio is 2.79:1, and you have a Light blue exterior with (if the trim code is 8B) medium blue deluxe woven vinyl bench interior. If the code is in fact BB, then there is a crossover from the Comet, and it is Medium Blue with Check B / Cloth and Corinth. Vinyl. The DSO isn't listed for your car. Maybe someone else knows. All the info I said can be found here: http://www.iit.edu/~petebre/maverick/decode/1972.html Good luck! -Corbin Oh yeah, it was built in Kansas City....
Here is the story as far as I know about this car. It's basicly one of your little old lady cars. I'm not sure if she got it new or not. But she drove is slow and didn't ever take advantage of V8 in it. If she got it new then it was very underused, mechanically. Sad news is she is dead. In fact, been dead for the past 5 years. The car has been setting in her carport for 5 years now. Also it would seem the family of the now gone lady doesn't care about the car or the house, seeing how the car was left there, even with the door unlocked and the house still full of the woman's stuff. I probably could get the car cheap if I talked to the family, considering how they have treated it and her house. But the thing is, is it worth it? I might very well be wrong, and her car might turn into a very sensitive subject. Is a maverick of this sort worth persueing? What im really interested in is a Grabber, would this car be good to use for parts, or are there MAJOR differences?
Well, the only major difference is that the Grabbers are 2 door, and since this is a 4 door, some of the things are not the same, obviously. The majority of things will swap from Mav to Mav, to Comet to Mav. Good luck. -Corbin
I'll probably go by and check how many miles it has on it tomarrow (I have no idea why I didn't think to check it while checking the plate). If it has low miles on it, I will most likely try to buy it.
Oh, it will need some loven. There is rust on the chrome bumper. A dent in the back about a foot long and 2 inches in. The vinyl is peeling and will have to be replaced, or more likely taken off and repainted. And of course all that other wonderful stuff you have to do with cars that have set up. But I've seen FAR worse restoration projects.
Cars of that age, especially ones that are sitting for 5 years, mileage is not that important. They're gonna need work no matter what. I would just look for the Grabber that you want.
Iron, I would tread lightly on this because you don't know what the estate situation is with any family involved. Is there an will, an estate attorney, bank etc involved. If so there may be a problem with the disposition of the estate for many reasons.
