I am still trying to figure out the front end vibration I've had since this winter. When I'm going down the road, if I turn my wheel towards 11 o'clock or 1 o'clock ever so slightly, there is a vibration coming from the driver's front wheel area. When I come back to center, or tap the brakes a hair, I can feel the vibes decrease, although not as much with the brake application as the return to center. Today I took both wheels off and spun them by hand with the calipers on. While the passenger side spins smoothly, the driver's side seems to be dragging a little bit more abrasively that it should. When I put my hand on the tie rod while spinning the wheel, I can feel a similar vibration to the one I feel in the steering wheel. Should I take my rotor off and have it turned? It seems to me that my issue lays within the brake system on that side. I took the pads out today and cleaned them, they do not seem to be wearing oddly. The only thing I can think of is that the rotor is wearing strangely or is warped (brand new rotors 10-11 months ago). I have already checked the wheel bearings and my rim clearance (my slots required me to grind down the calipers a fair amount to clear), I did not find any problems there.
Did you spin the driver wheel with the pads out? A bad bearing will have a whirring or growling sound.
rotors are onlly new untill you put on brakes (1) time... i had a new set that i had turned (2) times in 5,000 miles. i now have the slotted/drilled rotors and love them. had them about a year and they still look new,,,frank...
I Would Try Changing Brake Hoses They Are Around $10.00 At Orelieys The Inside Is Probley Comming Apart
Got It! Well, revisting already cleared areas paid off. I had someone spin the rotor with the caliper off while I held the tie rod. Sure enough, it still had the vibe. So I pulled the bearing again for the 2nd time in a few months, only this time it was full of metal shavings. The outer bearing and race were trashed. Thanks again, mission accomplished!
