It's cool, to each their own. I just never could get around their looks, they were just too angular for my tastes. I like aerodynamics, hence my love for the newer (and newest) as well as the classic mustang body.

Which of course means that Comets will be more valuable later on down the line? Either way, both have their strong points and, being a beggar myself, I so totally see your point!!! :)

classic all the way, to me i can't understand why they brought back the VW instead of the Maverick, ford's bug killer, maverick was the car for those with a VW budget and a propensity for fun.

Another dead thread resurrected. 80s, and more so 90s, mustangs look like jelly beans. Great running cars though. I'd drive my Maverick over any of them.

I don't consider them true musclecars, but the fact the grabbers look like one is really helping their value. Seen the bids on ebay lately? There is a blue 72 bid up to 7K and it hasn't hit reserve yet. Unreal. I guess the point I am trying to make is that whether they were true musclecars or not the public is starting to feel anything with some stripes and a scoop is "muscular", despite low power engines. Great for sellers, bad for buyers.

I really think us original owners view these cars totally different than some of the newer owners. Guess it is a generation gap. But dont ya wish you coulda bought one of these new like I did???? hehe

Ha! Thanks, Sierra, for making me look up the word necromancy. Now my brain is smoking :rofl2: . Talk about bringing things back from the dead  . I wonder about you sometimes man:16suspect . j/k :D

As far as our little dispute here.....

When my car is done, it WILL be a bonified muscle car. As for now, it is a classic because it is older than 35 years! jmho.

The threads have this list at the bottom of the page of threads that are supposedly similar to the one you have up. So far the oldest thread I've seen down there has been from 2002. :29:

My grandma bought a '70 Maverick new. She traded it in on a new Thunderbird in 1977. Would have been cool if she would have kept it, but I guess being an Indianapolis car, it probably would be a total rust bucket by now.

i would have to say that it's become a classic in the last few years. but when i talk about my comet to people who have no clue what i'm talking about i refer to it as an economy muscle car so i guess that kinda counts.:rofl2:

I tell people that my '72 Grabber is Classic American Mini-Muscle.

On a side note, I needed a set of sparkplugs the other day. Some kid was working the counter and I was expecting the normal, what is a Maverick? stuff. To my shock. He got real excited and asked if I had the car in the parking lot to check out. Maybe the rest of the world is wising up to what a special car the Comet and Mavericks really are.

I like to think of mine as Sport Muscle.

I don't think a Maverick is a muscle car or classic. Special interest car maybe. I still think a classic is '48 vintage and older like CCCA states.

Not a muscle car as it never had that kind of power from the factory. A 289 Mustang or run of the mill 302 'stang isn't a Muscle car either.

Now if a 390 or larger was factory installed like on the Mustang, we have a differant horse.

Any car over 25 years-old is a Classic.
