Is it common for Mavericks to have 6 bangers and 5 lugs? I was at the boneyard yesterday looking for early Comet parts and ran into two Mavs with 6 cylinders and 5 lug wheels. I know the early Comets and Falcons with 6's had 4 lugs. Is that common on Mavs?
First year (1970 model) all cars had 4 lug. 1971-72 cars had 5 lug with a 250 six and the 302 v8. Starting in 1973, all cars had the 5 lug. .
I just looked up the brake drums for a 72 with a 250 and both 4 lug and 5 lug are listed for it. Must be another one of those FORD things, some do and some don't - "never say always"
Are you saying it came that way from the factory? Cause that goes against what is in the Maverick history timeline.
I said it is 5 lug. Not that it came that way. According to the VIN, my car is a '72 200 car (2K91T). Mechanically, the car is a '74, 5 lug with a 250 because I swapped everthing over to the '72 body from my wrecked '74 Grabber. My point is, you can't really look at someting unusual on a car in the scrap yard and think without a doubt that it came that way. 30 years is plenty of time for someone to have changed stuff. If my car were in a scrap yard, by all means it would appear to be a factory 5 lug '72 200 car.
I'm guessing the '71-'72 factory 250 cars were hit and miss. Syklops, what are the first 5 characters of your VIN? (would be intresting if the second letter is X)
That would be interesting if the pattern of 4-lug versus 5-lug had to do with where the car was assembled.
Maybe the Maverick History Timeline is wrong and 250's had 4 lugs. Anybody have a 250 (1971-72) that has 5 lugs from the factory?
I think the timeline is wrong.....because as far as I have ever seen or heard...only the V-8 cars in 1971-1972 got 5-lugs.
I just checked it again to refresh my memory, and it definately says 1971 250 and V8 cars received 5 lugs. Charlie might have to look into his info on there and correct it. http://www.geocities.com/cping3/newindex1.html .
