For new Mustangs ... looks like something that would work on a Maverick ... http://www.ssinserts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=110905&Category_Code=11b
That's pretty sharp. I think you should be the forum guinea pig and get a pair; that way, if they don't work, you can turn around and throw them on your Mustang :-D
Dan you are right! It does look like it would work. If it does I bet there will be a lot of Mav owners converting. Me for one. Wonder who will be the 1st to try it?
I have stut rods on the new car and here is why they don't generaly work on stock mavericks. The hinge on the maverick articulates, meaning it does not move in a single arc like the new hoods do. Becuase of this I could not get the hood to open very far the stuts didn't have enough travel. When I switch to the fox body mustang hinge this was no longer and issue and the hood opens fine, in fact it's almost to high Now Mistangs plus has a new hinge with a gas stut built in to the design that may adapt better to Mavericks http://www.mustangsplus.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=MPFMP&Product_Code=12094&Category_Code=new_items
I know the probrod won't loose tension and let the hood fall on my head, I hate gas struts, springs are ok, but I like the old fashioned prop rod, too many knots on my head to make me convert
These are billet aluminum and are made by the Ring Brothers. These guys have built several really unique and fantastic "Mustangs". Since there is almost nothing Ford about them, the quotes seemed appropriate. I have installed them on 67 Mustangs and on a 65 Mustang. No, not my cars. Beautiful pieces if money is no object. They are not even close to working with a Maverick though.
Just whatch out for the hood latch.....Can't seem to remember to squat down a little more and bang my bald spot on the thing almost every time. But I'm with you, Gas struts can hurt you. Now a longer prop rod that's chromed.....I'd buy that for a dollar.
