There are companies that still make sidepipe kits, do a search. Hooker was making "false" side pipe kits, but you probably would want the real thing. I think scooper (scott) had some on his car at one point, and might be able to give you some pointers on how the pipes were routed. Worth a shot:huh: .

You need a pipe that turns 90 degrees from your header collector then measure from the center of that pipe to where you want them to dump in front of the wheel well. The kits that I have seen come with the 90 degree elbow that takes your pipe toward the center of the car but it needs to turn another 90 to get to the outlet of the header. You will need between 60 and 72 inches depending on how far behind the door you want it to dump (asuming you have a 2 door)

you will need the 60" or 70" side pipes, and also they are easier to hook up with short headers or block hugger headers, it makes for a softer bend in the pipes that go to the side pipes. it should sound real good though!!!!!! just watch for leg burn!!!!

why are they illegal? I ran them for years on my custom vans and never had a problem?.they are a bonified exhaust system...I'm at a loss as to this????

You will have an S in your section of exhaust from header to sidepipe. They do not custom make them, you will have sizes to choose from. Find the sizes available and decide on how you want them to fit. Hint, longer is better. I was one of the first to run side pipes and I learned it all the hard way back in the 70's. You will have to cope with holes cut in your inner rocker panels for mounts for the sidepipes. Unless you weld the brackets to the underside of the rocker. Which is not advised due to the daily crap that happens, and the torture it will create to your rocker panels. You will end up with very distorted rocker panels. Sidepipes are cool, I still have my original set. They just have downsides to them as well.
    Good luck
    Dan

speedway motors has a side pipe hook up kit that has the bends you need, 2 U bends, 2 90 degree , pipes are mandrel bent, and a 2.5 inch dia.
    kit sells for 45 bucks.

I seem to recall the legality of side pipes stems from having exhaust running past the last opening window. In pick ups and vans, there are no side windows that open past the drivers door. Cars are a different matter. Thats why they were illegal in most states I lived in. Actually a lot of guys ran them, but they would not pass any safety inspection for that reason.

    I don't recommend side-pipes on any Maverick/Comet....
