I'm curious has anybody ever added one of those 3rd Brake Lights to their Maverick or Comet? (the ones installed on cars 1986 and newer). I have been seriously considering this mod I pretty much know the basics of how to wire it into my brake light circuit mounting and making it look nice (as if it came that way from the factory) is the biggest issue here. The Mav's back window is slopped more so then alot of cars that have this light, I have heard of people with spoilers that have attached them to that but I don't even have the Grabber trunk lid (not yet anyway). Anyhow if anybody has done this I really would like to know and how they made it look good :D.

    I did...

...and here's a picture where you can kind of see it. I got it from Jegs. They don't have the swivel base satin anymore, so you will want the "Swivel Base, Polished" part no. 135-62220.

What I did was drill three holes in the slanting part of the metal back by the rear deck, run the wiring down through the center hole, and swivel the base so that the light stuck out the back nice and level, then screwed it in.

If you have time and want to do it better, you could see if it would fit, then remove the back window and drill into the flat portion of the rear deck metal, and then mount it at 90 degrees. (Then you could get the satin one with fixed base, no. 135-62110.

You probably know already, but you'll want to be sure you get a relay wired in so the light doesn't blink with a turn signal. Only bad part about this is if it's not a high-tech relay, the brake light will flash with the emergency flashers, and you probably don't want that. Neither of these lights comes with a relay--I stole one from a joe-random 3rd brake light kit from K-mart.

When the back window gets foggy (since my defroster doesn't work very well), there's a little glare, but not very much at all. I'm very happy with the look:

    Ooops,

I didn't mean to say "I stole one...from K-mart." What I meant was "I legally obtained a kit similar to one from K-mart and used the relay contained therein."

I'm not a thief, English is just hard sometimes...

    Bests,

Couldn't I just wire it straight into the stoplight switch harness? As far the light you describe I couldn't find it in my Jegs Catalog.

    Well, yes...

...and wiring right into the stoplight sw harness might be the best way to do it too. Fewer things to break and all.

As for the part, I'm looking at the May/June '03 catalog with a funky orange lowered '57-ish C#*^y on the front. The lights are in the "Dress Up" section on p. 217-Q.

I think I have that catalog lying around here someplace, I was looking at my latest one the one with the Cavalier drag car on the cover (why anybody would drag race a Cav I will never know), anyhow i'm guessin my best bet is to buy one of the aftermarket kits for doing this rather then get one from the junk yard I was thinkin of saving a few $$$$ but the aftermarket ones probably would look better anyhow.
