Hey John, Haven't had a chance to talk to my dad since he went the other night, but my daughter said he had some problems with the car. I had to work and could not get off. Man, you guys had a great night for it! Wish you had some better luck. Later,
Thanks Tom....yeah your Dad pulled up on his scooter and started talking to me about the car...then he mentioned his Son had mavericks...then I realized who he was. He said he has a bad miss in his motor I will be back down there...but it will be after I get the car figured out, not making the 2 hour trip and race with a junk car When I do it will be a on a Friday night...I will give you a heads-up when I come back....Saturday was spur of the moment.
Very common problem on modified engines with some extra compression and timing etc. After I went to a mini starter, still had that problem so I drilled out the holes to 7/16th's and used a nut and lock washer on the bottom and then on the top, had to run the bolt thru the bell towards the trans. Since there is a limited clearance on the bell to get a nut and washer, had to fabricate a 2inch long barrel nut. Then you can use a socket and ratchet to tighten "real tight". Never has come loose since. May be other ways too, but the larger bolts seem to keep it from trying to move around when torque is applied, plus the bolts seem to fit tighter in the starter holes.
Good info, Old Guy. I too am having Starter-Staying problems. I'll look into doing the same thing. John, I noticed two things in your picture: 1) Your car looks you're getting a lots of body twist. FL is coming up pretty high and your RR appears to be much lower than your LR. I can't remember, do you have Coil-Overs? Maybe tighten up the RR some to see if that makes a difference. 2) Your LR tire does not appear to be wrinkling at all. I realize you don't have wrinkle-walls but there should be 'some' wrinkle to them, I'd think. I also realize you want to run as much air pressure as you can, but, judging from the picture, either that tire is un-loading (porpoising) or it has too much air in it. Of course, that's from the "What it's worth" department and me just "typing out loud". Having said all that, CONGRATULATIONS on your new Personal Best with this combo!
I thought WH had Friday night money program...glad you got a place to race John. Get your chassis guy to check your preload and make sure he does it with you in the car WITH the door closed. As for the starter issues I can't offer up much advice...mine stays put...all I've ever used is a late model Mustang starter. Lookin forward to doin some racin this weekend myself...between work and the rain havn't had much time for it
Thanks guys...good stuff. Old guy, thanks for the tips...I will try that. Rick B., definitely some good ideals...I will keep all that stuff in mind. Rick P. they run a Friday $ race but it was rained out....so I went Saturday instead. Thanks again and I will keep you guys in the loop.
O yeah, I got a hold of my chassis guy today, we are going to T&T a week from this Wednesday to get it sorted out. *then I am going to start slowing the car down for a 7.50 heads-up race I hope to make on Sept. 9th.
