Today, I just picked up a proto-type set of G2C (Granada-to-Cobra) brackets I designed and had a local machine shop make, that will adapt the 13" rotors and twin-piston PBR calipers from a '94-'04 Cobra mustang onto the '75-'80 Granada spindles --same sindle as used on the '74-'77 Mavericks.

I just wanted to ask if there's any interest in a conversion like this by any of you here? I still have some work left to do on this conversion, but I would hate to sink a lot of money into production of the adapter brackets if there's no interest.

    TIA

This setup shows a 13" cobra rotor and '01 Bullitt Mustang caliper mounted on a '70 Mustang disc brake hub, on a '75 model Granada spindle on my '68 Mustang:

Looks killer. Is any modification to the spindle required? What is the cost?

Boy,I would love a set.I have the 10th anniversery calipers on my 96 gt,with 13 inch rotors.they would be aswesome on my maverick. The only drawback,I would need new wheels,to show them off.

I might have interest. It will depend on cost and whether or not I choose to build my own using the template listed in the other thread by this same name.

They look nice. Will need at least 17 inch wheels to clear them.

    Thanks for responding.

I know of this conversion. It was actually designed by a guy named Doug Bender who goes by the name of "Fairlaniac". He desgined the adapter pieces to install 99+ V6/GT calipers onto the Granada spindles with the Granada's 11" rotor. Doug called it the "GT-Nada" conversion. Earl Hayes is a friend of Doug's who was running Doug's setup on Earl's race car.

Doug And I had talked several times about this conversion when he was developing it around 2001. Doug's intent was to design a solid one-piece bracket that he was going to market, but for whatever reason, he backed out of going through with it. I don't know if he ever actually designed the solid bracket or not (??).

Looks interesting, how about the spindle, any mod's that have to be done to get the rotor to fit? and what about master cylinders? manual or power?

    Thanks.

No modifications have to be made to the spindles. The brackets just bolt on.

Presently, I only have this one proto-type set of brackets to make sure everything is going to fit and to sort out some other details with.

Just from my estimates currently, I would say the price for the CNC milled alumium brackets, machined aluminum rotor centering rings & fasteners will be ~$295.00 per set. (this is just an estimation of projected cost).

...Hmmm. I see this thread got posted twice....Sorry 'bout that!

The spindle doesn't require any modifications. I installed '70 Mustang disc brake hubs on the spindles to be able to mount the 13" Cobra rotors.

The adapter diagram listed in another post by Just1993 will allow you to mount a 99+ Mustang V6/GT caliper onto the Granada/Maverick disc brake spindle while retaining the smaller 11" Granada/Maverick rotor, but that same bracket will not work with the specifications given for mounting Cobra calipers/rotors to the same spindles.

The Cobra rotor is going to have a significant added offset away from the spindle compared to the 99+ caliper with the Granada rotor. Without having a rigid, solid one-piece bracket to mount the Cobra caliper on the spindle with, the caliper would likely have some twist in it that would cause the pads to wear unevenly.

Either the '94/'95 Cobra MC (manual or power brakes), or the '94/'95 V6 MC (power)would work. Depending on how much room you have in front of the power brake booster in a Maverick, the '84-'90 Lincoln Mk VII 4-wheel disc MC may work as well.

So that's a 2 piece (rotor + hub)? If so, this is exactly what I've been looking for for my Comet. I would require a set!! Give a price and I'll start saving for 'em.

The rotor is mounted onto a separate hub. This is the '70 Mustang disc brake hub on the Granada spindle; http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/1407/g2con68003wm0.jpg

This is the 13" Cobra rotor and '01 Bullitt Mustang caliper mounted on the '70 Mustang hub, that's installed on the Granada's spindle....this sounds kinda like that old nursery school song about the frog and knot on a log....:bouncy: http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/3817/g2con68006xy9.jpg

I don't have everything completely sorted out on the swap just yet. I just got the adapter brackets machined and back from the machine shop on Tuesday. The best I can tell at this point (and this is just an estimate), the conversion kit price for the CNC machined billet aluminum brackets, a pair of machined rotor centering rings, and the high-strength fasteners would likely be in the $295 per kit range.

That price isn't too bad. Just keep us updated. I want to go road racing. But not until I get my front end figured out. That brake set-up is one piece of my puzzle.
