found an AOD in a wrecked 1984 f150. carbed. 302. the guy is selling the motor and i can get the AOD with all the parts to swap it into my mav.
would this be "the one" i need to do the swap?
i did a search on "AODs" and the more i read the more :slap: i got.
your thoughts please and if this is "the one" i will do a write up on the swap :yup:

Basically, if you can get one from a truck or a V8 Mustang, you can't go wrong. They're the 'strongest' of the AOD's....

But I would rebuild it to be safe though. Those things are notorious for burning the OD band. They are great though for fuel mileage, as compared to a C4 or C6.

I like the T5 myself, but I'm not shelling out $500+ for a USED T5. That's what they go for around here.

Everything I build from now on will have OD. With gas prices, its a must for a cruiser.

Be sure and grab all the linkage that goes from the carb to tranny. If you don't want it, I'll take it.

I read something about making sure it is cable operated-OD?-as opposed to the computer controlled. I read that in the Ford Restomod book. Good investment by the way.

'84 will be cable operated. I was going to go AOD in that '69.5 and did extensive reading on it and how to properly adjust the throttle cable. That is, until I found out it won't fit the smaller tunnel... I'm going with a used T5 from MPS now.

The AOD's that were behind the throttle-body injected cars were cable operated. I'm pretty sure you can use those, too.

So what year Mav is the small tunnel? Just 70? My C-4 is starting to act up, and I was thinking of doing an AOD or T-5 swap soon.

the AOD i found has a "rod" that operates it. the rod looks like the kickdown rod on a c4. from the looks it looks like it will hook up to the holly carb i have perfect.
Lokar has a ...bracket.#SRK4000 and a cable #KD2AODHT that is to replace the rod. the rod is a ...pusher...so does anyone know how this cable can be hooked to ...push? i called Lokar and the tec. guy told me this is the brk. and cabel i needed but didn't say how to hook it up.
my transmittion guy said we would hook up the rod and if i wanted to do the cable later we would...
this AOD came out of an eighty year old mans truck he bought new...
kind of like the ..."little ol' lady" car...this is the "little ol' man" truck :D .

A little info on the AOD.
The years up to about 87 have an OD accumulator that the later ones do not have.
The 89 up Lincoln Mark 7 trans are the best ones with more clutch plates but have longer tail shaft housings by about 1".
The internal drums are stamped steel on the later ones and more desirable.
Go to Baunann Engineering site to learn all you need to know.
The OD band from the AODE can be put in the AOD, going from 1-1/2 to 2" wide, plus other changes to make the trans tougher.

    Hoping for AOD in '70.

Is there no way that an AOD will fit into a '70 Maverick, or will it take a few mods to make it work? Is it a rear mount problem or a possible clearance issue in the tunnel?
