I just recieved a 1971 V8 automatic 2 door Maverick from the original owner as a gift. He and I work together and he is retiring in a few months. At the end of this month he will be visiting his homeland in Hungry and decided to give the car to me before he leaves. He was interested in a new Mustang in 1971 and bought the Maverick instead for $1945. The dealer gave him $50 off the suggested price. The car is used everyday since new. It starts up on the first turn of the key and has over 200,000+ miles on the original motor and transmission. The windshield is cracked and I am interested in obtaining a new one asap. There is no rust in the car as it has lived it's life in Southern California. Of course the interior is shot and will have to be repaired. My plan is to get the motor overhauled and the transmission replaced, maybe by a 5-speed manual? I do not plan on building the motor for higher horsepower as the stock 210hp will be enough for such a little car. Maybe disc brakes and a lower suspension? I plan on keeping the stock Ford Light blue color. Wheels will be changed, I did have a (New) 1968 Ford Mustang GT with the nice Ford wheels and beauty rings back then, Might look nice on the Maverick? If anyone knows where to get a windshield let me know. I'd post a picture but haven't figured out how to yet. Sincerely
Congrats on the new car!!! You have any way to post pictures as we always love to look at new (to us) cars.
:Handshake sounds like a nice car... i got my windshield at a glass shop. they ordered it and i had it in 3 days... ...might want to do a serch at the top and see what has been talked about as far as windshields go... ...frank...
were are you located in so-cal? My local glass shop gave me an estimate of $300 for a new window including labor, and $80 for a gasket which can be bought from Autokrafters.com for $50.
Welcome aboard. As the other guys have said, the windshields are available new thru most any windshield shop and you definitely need to get you a new gasket ahead of time.
,, Sounds like a pretty good deal you got on that car. As said before we like pics!. You will either find what you need here, or find out how to get what you need here. again.
Hello Friends, I have been researching the Maverick project. Looks like a 5-speed would work if I can find a clutch pedal assembly. I have a friend who is a life time member of the El Mirage 200 mph club (5-75) and he thinks the Maverick is cool. Don't see many of them anymore. I make a reproduction of the old Indy car style gas fillers and I plan on installing one on the Maverick. I may have some new springs made for it to lower the front end. Looking for a Lincoln rearend with disc brakes. I have already installed one in a 1967 Chevrolet Nova I had once. Note for ya all a 1970 Chevrolet Corvette manual master cylinder for 4 wheel disc brakes works great and are about $75. No adjuster is needed on 4 wheel disc brake cars. 10-4
Instead of buying lower springs for the front, you could always cut some of the coil. Been done by many on the forum and the results are good. Do a search, there`s alot of info .
