Hello.

I wanted to post this earlier, but my Maverick 4-door was selected to be in the first annual City of Dearborn Homecoming event, "Cruisin' Dearborn" *, on Friday, August 4, 2006. Just a brief overview, Dearborn Homecoming is an annual summer festival, and this was the first year for this cruise. The "*" is that my Maverick was chosen because the selection was open to the first 200 applicants, and I must have been one of the 200. There were no restrictions on the type/condition of the car, just as long as the car was built between 1933 and 1980. I received the approval letter from the city the day I was leaving to go the Roundup July 25, and I opened the letter on my return Sunday, July 30. As I was driving in with the rest of the cars, there were good comments from those that were watching the procession, such as, "Is that a Maverick or a Comet?", and general amazement that the Mavericks and Comets still exist. Some guy asked if I had a 302, and I held up a "6". For participating, I got a dash plaque, and a certificate of apprecation from the city. I don't have any pictures to post yet, due to not having a digital camera, but the following is an article from the local paper's website, www.pressandguide.com:

"
Weekend called a huge success

By Cristen Kis, Press & Guide Newspapers
PUBLISHED: August 9, 2006

DEARBORN
Hot cars, hot food and hot weather made Dearborn's 27th annual Homecoming festival the cool place to be last weekend."..."

"Classic cars from 1933 to 1980 hit the streets of Dearborn Friday evening in the first ever Cruisin' Dearborn, which started at Dearborn Police Headquarters on Michigan Avenue and wound through historic West Dearborn and into Ford Field Park. "The car cruise was designed to increase attendance on Friday evening and we believe it did that," said Mary Laundroche, director of public information. "We want to continue it and build on it."..."

Here also is another article from www.automobiledir.com/press/catalog/957/index.html:
"Automobile heritage a focus of Dearborn's Homecoming
4th August, 2006

Dearborn's 27th annual Homecoming, which draws former residents from metro Detroit and beyond, will offer a nod to the city's connection to the automobile.

A classic car show, Cruisin' Dearborn, has been added to the usual lineup of games, entertainment, fireworks and family and class reunions. The car show will feature 200 cars made between 1933 and 1980." "The city hopes today's car show and cruise will be a big draw. Car owners will start the cruise at 6:45 p.m. at the parking lot of the 19th District Court on Michigan Avenue.

From there, they will travel east on Michigan, to Military then on to Cherry Hill and into Ford Field Park. The cars will be on display until 10 p.m."

Actually he didn't go. Since it was the first time for this cruise, I wasn't sure of where we would park, when we could leave, etc., so I let my dad know he could stay home if he wanted. It worked out, because now I know what to expect for next year. Wish me luck in getting my Maverick in.
