Funny you say that. Last night at my son's football game, one of the guys in the neighborhood said " What are you working on now" ? "Is that a Gremlin or something" ? It amazes me that with the sales these car had, not very many people remember them till you jog their memory.
I had the guy running the staging lanes at the track last week ask me "Is that some kind of Ford?"(while standing at the front fender by the Maverick emblem) I think he only wanted to start the conversation so then he could to tell me all about his Mustang, blah, blah, blah. We were stuck waiting becuse the car in front of me had just taken out the 330 lights so I couldn't get away.
The first time I saw a maverick I didn't know what it was. It was sitting in a hay field for sale and I must have driven by it 10 times before I got my dad to come with me. At first I thought it was a camaro, because it does have similar quarter lines and such, but I knew that wasn't right. I was 16 or 17 at the time. I was thoroughly confused. I finally drug my dad out there and he quickly pointed out that I'm an idiot. LOL! I'm only 26 though, so I can count on one hand the number of mavs I've seen in "real life". I think it's 4 counting my own. This one didn't have any badges, was in black primer, and had flintstone floor boards. Actually now that I think about it, it wasn't too much worse than the one I have now!
ive had camaro, mustang mach 1,javeln,and actuly a pacer fastback!!!!!! so far those are the only ones.
I've heard the Vega line, too. When is the last time someone saw a Vega run on the road? I can't recall seeing one over the last few years. I have a neighbor that has a Pontiac Astro (same body as Vega) drag car, but I only see it on a trailer. This particular Astro is in Plum Crazy's class. That's a race I'd like to see.
