hello... we have a 73 maverick that is my yunger brothers car and he is restoring it. my dad and him want to put a world class t5 in the car and i was wondering if anyone had any information about doing this, or if they have done one themselves. if so did the tranny fit under the tunnel or was there significant torching involved? it currently has a c4 with a mustang shifter on the floor. so if anyone knows of articles of people who have done the swap or you have please any information will help. thanks

Havent Done One, But Pretty Sure It Fits Right In The Trans Tunnel W/o Any Mods Other Than Shortening The Drive Shaft And A Custom Cross-member. There's Been A Few Accomplish This.....

With The Exception Of The Early '70 Models....I THINK THE TRANS TUNNEL MAY BE TOO NARROW BUT DONT HOLD ME TO THIS

The T5 will fit in there just fine. You will have to come up with clutch linkage, refab the trans frame mount, and shorten your drive shaft. For clutch, the best route would be to get a pedal assembly and fab it up for cable operation. Than you can use the T5 bell-housing. If you use a standard bell-housing with mechanical linkage, parts will be hard to come by. Plus you would need an adapter plate to mate the T5 to the bell-housing. Different bolt patterns and the T5 input shaft is about 9/16" longer than the normal manual transmission for these cars. Instead of going with mechanical linkage, you could make a hydraulic set up fairly cheap or buy a ready to install kit. Both the kits and adapter plate are available from any Mustang supply house.

You got it backwards. :D The 70 has a narrower tunnel but it will still fit with a little modification. Barry has one in his 70.

You should cut back the floor brace in the trans tunnel,i didn't on mine and i coulden't get the tranny as high as i would have liked but it still drives along ok.I also used a lakewood scatter shield with headman headers and everything clears just fine.Derek.

Got the same deal as Derek except hooker headers and I did cut the brace for proper drive shaft angle. Works excellent. I used a Hydraulic set up for the clutch but the cable set up is probably cheaper.

Did you buy one of those mustang kits or make something up?
