    little off topic.....

Instead of spouting all my ideas and feelings i'm just gonna say.......I agree with everything Terry said.

P.S. Since there are not many Maverick/Comet enthusiast out there (let's face it, they are not a very popular car) I don't see how "splitting" the main event will help anything that is Mav/Comet related.

After getting home last night, I read this thread while unwinding from 5 days on the road. I waited to today to reply, as I wanted to have a clear head when I put in my two cents worth.

First, I wish John and anybody else that wants to start a club or group good luck. This very thread is an example of what you are going to have to deal with. If you can deal with it and keep your sanity, you are a better man than I.

Second, there are always room for more clubs and groups of like mided people, however I think there needs to be a National orgnatition to combine all the like minded clubs under one roof for better represention to Government and manufactering officials, who has more voice, 20 people or 2000 ? The National org does not have to controll every thing the member clubs do, only offer guidlines for the betterment of representing our hobby to each other and the general public.

Third, there will always be dirty laundry, misinterpitations, disagreements and hurt feelings over anything that goes on in any club. Nobody is always going to agree on everything, there will be a difference of opion, afterall, we are all human and think our way is the best way. Some people can comprimize better than others, no fault of there own, just human nature.

Forth, many of us don't have the time or resorces to put into a club. As many of you know, I am self employed, and if I don't work a day. I don't get paid. No paid vacations, no paid holidays, no sick leave. This is my choice, I could go to work for somebody else and have all these benefits, but I prefer to work for myself. I take a day or two off now and then, but untill my equipment is paid for, I cannot afford to take off for three or four days in a row to attend an event several hundred miles from me. I am NOT bellyacheing or whining because of this, but it is just a fact. Many of us are in the same boat, wheather we are self employed or work for someone else. With the high cost of fuel, eating out, and hotel rooms, it takes a great deal of money to atend an event that is far away from home.

Fifth, may I offer a suggestion to the MCCI and the MCG: Look at the NSRA [National Street Rod Assoc] if you want to see a succesful orgination. NSRA holds regional events, like the Fun Ford Weekends, that draw thousands of entrys. Now I know there are more street rods out there than Mavericks and Comets because they include everything from 1900 to 1948, but their events are allways full. I know the Mini Meets are supposed to fill this function in the MCCI, but as far as I have seen there are only a few people willing to get one together. I understand there is massive work involved with getting a meet together, and most of us are simply not able to provide the leadership skills to do so. This is not a putdown of any indivual, but simply a fact, with a full time job and a family, entertainment time is limited, and who wants to work an event instead of enjoying it? Not many people. Most want to enjoy an event without the pressure of running it.

Lastly, these are my thoughts and my thoughts only. Take them with a grain of salt. They are not to point the finger at anyone or any group. I cannot and will not tell anybody how to run any group or club, I can only offer my thoughts and suggestions on what has been discused here on the board. I am not a member of any club at this time, and don't know if I ever will be. If I can't have something to offer a club, then I don't feel the need to be in one. In return, a club must offer me something in return, besides just being able to say I'm in so and so club. I may be condridicting myself on this point, and may join a club at a later date if I see it may benefit my hobby, but with what I see right now, I have no desire to. So for now I will remain...........

wow i read all of that, here's what i think, form your clubs and stuff, but why don't you just all have a national meet where all the clubs go to one spot so everyone can meet everyone?

It seems alot has happened in my absence lately. I joined the maverick mafia myself. I like the MCCI. I would like the lowdown on this stuff too. I support mavericks and comets anyway I can but if it means arguments and fighting amoung the fine folks I have called family I'm not up for it. I thought (OUR) car club was for us to get together to show and talk mavericks, comets etc. Yall let me know...Jim

Everyone Is Entitles To Do Their Own Thing... But Some People Are Just Blowing This Situation Way Out Of Porportion. Just Making A Big Deal Out Of Something That's Very Simple.... A Man Has It In His Head To Start His Own Group (with Nothing Against The Mcci). As Far As The Round-up/group Meeting Dates Go, The Mcg Found It Worked Best For The Group...as Did The Mcci Several Years Ago. I Just Think Everyone Needs To Calm Down.....:)

without Comet now just keeping in touch
Have 50 clubs, but just have them meet once a year and lobby for our cars in a community effort.. hmm the US of A Has 50 states all with different ways of doing things but yet similar and they form one United Body. How about a blanket organization to help promote common issues and concerns, and needs? U M C F M of the world.

United Mercury Comet Ford Maverick Clubs of the World,

They set no rules for member organizations. They only host a once a year car show.
And offer a way for all the clubs to have a voice to the industry as a whole.
