Three will do just fine with some decent shocks.

You saw my car. It has 4 leaf springs in it. I just had them done before the trip south. I even had them rearched to sit 1" higher than stock. The ride down & back was fabulous. I'm glad I went to 4 leaf. I'm surprised they weren't a stiff ride. Very smooth indeed. Maybe the KY shocks all around helped also. Go with 4 leaf for sure....

If you want a soft ride, then 3-leaf is the way to go. Keep in mind that they will eventually sag over the years just like your originals did. I went with 4-leaf to avoid future sagging, but it does ride stiff...

On that note, for a car with an objective of some street use on the weekdays and racing on the weekends, how many leafs would you recommend? I recently came upon some springs that have six leafs in them, and I assume that is going to equal a very stiff ride and poor traction around corners. I've got stiffer springs up front (about 520lbs rate) and I'd like the rear to match. Would it be all right to simply remove one or two springs? Or do I need to go and purchase a completely new set?

*EDIT* Sorry, I should have specified; I'm hoping on doing more autocross type racing than straight line racing. Would stiff shocks/soft springs work in that application?

Track setup = stiff shocks, soft springs.

(from what I was told anyway)

If I had it to do over, I'd go with 3-leafs, stiff shocks, and lower the front to match. My car rides like a brick $#!t-house...
