ok, i'll be putting in my engine and trans this weekend  so here's few questions, i got those plugs that go into the holes in the heads for the air pump, but how far are they supposed to go in?, and could someone provide me a pic of a belly bar on a v8? and should i try to put it in before or after the engine? and one more question. has anyone had any luck in changing the dashlights bulbs to different color? i know there is a trick to make em brighter, but how about different color?

They should be flush or inset a little. Every head I've seen has them that way. even my trick flow heads have those plugs flush. The belly bar bolts in from the bottom. Easy to install before or after. It's never gotten in my way. I've seen plenty of people with stangs and torinos and such put different color bulbs(or painted the originals). Not as bright but look ok.

When I encountered those stupid air pump passages a zillion years ago, I just found some bolts that matched, and stuck um in. Dunno if it is right or wrong but 30 some odd years later it still works. I think the bolts were no longer than an inch.

The inserts will sit flush with the head

The plugs are inverted flare plugs and they will bottom out. Just screw them in tight.
The belly bar is easier to put in before the engine is in but you can do it either way.
The trick to changing the color of the bulbs is a small plastic cap that fits over the bulb - it makes the bulb even dimmer so use the bright bulbs if you decide to do this.
