My oldest son (17) finally landed himself a job, so we tagged and insured the Mav the other day. I don't think he realized what kind of attention he would get driving it. Body work isn't done yet but that isn't turning anyone off from giving him the thumbs up! Car runs great and he's enjoying it. Don
Sounds familiar! I was driving my Mav at 17 and yes they do get attention! Tell him to soak it all in! And have fun! Preston
Ahh, I will never forget April 25, 2005. The day I bolted the license plate on my 74 Grabber and took it out and drove it around town for the first time. I was also 17... That night we all piled in it and went to eat at Chilis.
He's been wanting to drive this thing for weeks now. Other than a few runs around the block I've been the only one to really drive it. Of course his mom is freaked out about him being out on his own in it. I had to remind him that with the flowmasters on it, I can hear it when he is leaving the neighborhood....I think we are going to hit test and tune once we put the posi unit in the rear end. Sure he'll love that.
The key to what you said was got his first job!!!! my son(fastmav302)i made him go the same route, just tell he can't blend in :bananaman with the maverick, get ready for it to be called everything but a mav.(i.e pinto ,nova, gremlin, ect )and watch that hot rodding ..."dad it wasn't me" how many mavericks are in town???
Nice!! I got my comet when I was 17. Got the same attention then. But of course that was 15 years ago. Nowadays there is a lot of rice on the road and people just drool over old american iron.
Thats cool...I remember my brothers first car was a 70'....I remember him and I (I was 15) cruising around...had four 6x9's on the back dash...little 40 watt push button amp...jamming to RUSH's "tom sawyer"....man I wish I could go back.
Man, I remember spring of 74.. in my 72 grabber.. was 16. I love these cars!!! John, just sit inside either of your cars and feel the times, None of us can go back, but we all can remember. Dan
I vividly remember a buddy of mine telling me that he saw my car going past the ballpark and getting a great 4th gear chirp of the tires. That was in 1977 or so, told him I was asleep at the time cause I worked the graveyard shift. Turns out it was my Dad just goin out to see how I had been makin progress. I vividly remember asking my Pop about it, not mad, but proud. He confessed, I sure miss him. These cars sure become part of our lives. Dan
