I recently purchased a 302 that I believe came out of a Maverick. However, I suspect that it was not the original engine, and I would like to find out what type of car it actually did come out of. The two numbers that I've been able to find on the block are: D1OE -6015-AA, which after some research I think means it is out of a Ford betweens the years '70 to '74, and 1K529407, which is a partial VIN. If it's out of a different Mav, the 1 means '71 and the K is the manufacturing plant... I think. Is there any way to tell for sure what type of car the engine came out of? I'm not sure if it's possible, but this is all I've been able to find on the 'net. Any ideas?
Well, it's a 71 for sure. What year Maverick is it supposed to be from? Not sure about the casting number, but I have read that the 'O' means that it was made for a passenger car, rather than a truck or Mustang. I don't know how accurate that is though. Dave
On the bottom side of the block by the starter is a date code of when the block was actually cast. Looks almost like a rivet is holding it on. For Fords it's considered correct if the block was cast up to 6 months before the car was built.
Sometimes there is a tag bolted to the intake, and this can be decoded, but I don't know anything about them, I'm not that fussy (yet)
I believe the engine came out of a '70 Mav... *edit* sorry should have clarified; I think the engine came out of a '70, and if it did it's definitely not the original since like Craig said they didn't come with 302s. I'm after what vehicle it's originally from...
It cannot be from a 70. CANNOT. It is cast with a D1 number, that is 71, and even if it was cast and assembled in 70, it was cast and assembled in 70 for a 1971 model car. They just didn't cast a part as a certain year and use it on an earlier model. Later model yes, earlier, no. Dave
