hello gang im moving back to maine and im taking my 76 comet gt clone with me. im in north carolina and i need to tow my car home. it dosent have an engine in it so what is the best way and cheapest to tow my car? once home im gona get into my garage and rip into it hard core! theres also a paint shop that dose resto mods on 50's 60's 70's fords:bananaman im gona se if i can get there help. but if you have eny info on yards that have comets in the new england states let me know please!
Cometkurt, I recently bought a Sprint that was in St Louis. Make a long story short the trans took a dump on me and I had to find a way to get it home. I called the Uhaul folks and a trailer can be had for less than 200.00 so long as you have a truck. If you don't have a good tow vehicle and need to rent one then the price will skyrocket!! In my case it was actually cheaper to have it put on a Roll-Back and brought home. 600.00 for 450 mile tow job. the uhaul truck and trailer combo would have ran over 700.00 Just something to think about. I have one of those hitches that bolts to the bumper brackets. All four wheels on the ground, and just drag it home. I think you will need big bumper brackets to use it, though. I dragged mine about 60 miles like this, and with the steering wheel unlocked, it will just follow you along, the front wheels turning whichever way you drag it.
"Do not use a tow bar with no engine or trans" especially long distance. The wheels will not want to return to center when turning or even hitting a good bump. The tow dolly is probably your best bet for this one.
Personally, I would suggest a tow dolly, as well, unless there is trans or rearend damage. You wouldn't want the rear to be turning with the driveshaft... I am renting a 4-wheels off the ground trailer from U-Haul tomorrow for the weekend. About $100. Ask around, they might offer a discount if you pick it up at one place and drop it off at another. They say these things tend to congregate at various locations, which thins out their availablilty at the busy locations. If you can drop it off at one of the thinner locations, you might get a deal.
Tow dolly all the way. I've towed 4 Mavericks with no drivetrain on our dolly and couldn't hardly tell they were back there.

Oh yea! I remember the time when I was giving a friend of a friend of a friend a ride and he carressed my dash as he said "dude...I like your camaro". I made him get out at the next intersection... Hmmm...now I had a Jamie moment I make myself laugh sometimes...

I had a guy at a light a while back ask me if mine was a '65. I told him it's a '72. He said "Man, I didn't even know they made those that long". The light turned green before I could ask him what kind of car he thought it was.
'65??? I wonder what he thought it was. All the car body styles changed alot from the mid 60s to the 70s. Went more sleek and rounded rather than all squared up.
