Okay, so I got the Maverick that craigs_mav was geting rid of not too long ago, and when I'd first traded for it I got it home and really thought long and hard about what I'd just done, and decided I made a mistake.

So I took a few long hard looks at the car and it's running condition and went to work. First thing was the harmonic balancer had lost ALL of it's rubber and was making a terrible, terrible racket. So that got replaced and the car continued to run like garbage and stall when it stopped in reverse.

I was positive the timing was off, but the spark was so late that it seemed like it was hitting early. Strange, I know, but my dad helped me set it. We changed the spark plugs, got the fluids back in it and fired her up.

It was idling at almost 1500 RPM. Tried the idle screw on the carb, did nothing. Luckily my dad was still there, he noticed that the air conditioner had a part that kicks on to raise the idle, but someone at some point had screwed it out all the way to keep the car running when it was missing constantly. Got the idle back down to 650-700 and took her for a spin.

I was told the power steering pump was shot, but it seems to be holding enough fluid to make steering very, very easy. And sure, the belt snapped on the first test run, but the car runs beautiful.

Much torquier than I expected it to be.

Over the next few weeks I'll keep working on it and the Comet, and I'm going to come to a decision to get rid of one of them. I wish I had money, at least enough to keep four cars, but it's getting out of hand with 3, and we're looking to add an AMC Javelin to the flock, so one's gotta go.

Yeah, I've got two and another car (that's plagued with problems) and insurance is a bigger pain than gasoline EVER was. It's not that it's expensive, it's that I'm bad with bills.

Not to mention living in an apartment compelx on top of even more crap that adversely effect my every day life. And I really want a Javelin.
