I've read lots of posts resulting from my searches recently. I have long since determined that holleys perform better than edelbrocks. However, with my little 300- hp motor, would I be better going with an edelbrock to get a little better mileage? I don't expect this car to run 12's or accelerate like a bat out of hell, I just want a fun driver. It seems like I'm going to spend days tuning a holley only to find out that I could get the same performance with my mild build and better mileage from an edelbrock. PS: I have a rebuilt holley 600 in the garage, but I know it will need rejetting, among other things, so I kind of fear the tuning Engine info again: 306ci E7Te heads with 1.7 roller rockers Flat top KB/HP pistons 9.5:1 compression weiand stealth intake hooker 6901 headers trick flow track heat stage 1 camshaft (.499/.510 @ 1.6 rockers)
Hi, ive dealt with many different carbs and high performance cars and I think holley and edelbrock both make good carbs.for what you have I would pick something at has at least 600 cfm. Im running an edelbrock 4barrel 600cfm on my 73 dodge truck and it has over 300hp and it runs like a champ. But for my maverick I have a 289 with a holley street dominator high rise intake and a holley street avenger carb, it’s a hot motor, the set up was pulled out of a wrecked mustang that was t-boned. Before the mustangs death it was running high 11's on the quarter New is always better, but if you can rebuild a carb good its works just like new. Good luck on your choice
I Like Edelbrock's, For Their Performance And Little/no Adjustments Needed And Extremely User Friendly Design. Been Running Oneon My 4door For 3 Yrs Now And Haven't Done One Thing To It. But That's Just My Personal Opinion...
another option is the 4100 series motorcraft carb, 600cfm versions are out there,(although a little harder to find), dead reliable and once set rarely fall out of tune.
Nothing to think about..... Go with an Edelbrock. I have, and am a Holley man and they do look good and out perform the Edelbrock by far. But for drivability and gas milage go for the Edelbrock. So, from what I read you already know the answer. RTFLDGR
if you already have the holley and its a vac secondary carb, just put maybe 68 jets in the front and go driving. save you a bunch of money for the new carb. if you didnt have the carb already, i would have leaned toward the edelbrock, but maybe $8 for jets and a few bucks for fresh bowl and block gaskets in case you tear one, why not use the holley?
Edelbrock--->much prettier Seriously, though, the jets and rods are right on top, if you ever have to change them. I messed with mine a bit, and found that the stock configuration right out of the box worked best. 5 years, and not a single problem (other than my own stupid attempts at making what works good work better, and failing miserably )
Well first off i am a holley man i've owned a few eldelbrocks and had nothing but aggrivation.Drivability was good always started but very poor performance carb.My dead stock 460 79 f150 went 15.80 with the edelbrock and all i did was drop on a out of the box 600 holley and it went 15.66.It woulden't even spin the tires with the edelbrock but with the holley it is now a smoke machine. My Comet has the same 600 holley on it that was on my 85 Capri 5.0 that i rebuilt 6 years ago and i have never touched it other than idle mixture screws when it went on the fresh engine and as for gas mileage the Comet has gotten 28 mpg on the highway at 60mph.Just my 2 cents.Derek.
The new holley street avengers seem pretty decent. I know somone who has one on a mild smallblock it seems fine. I know a few chevy guys who love there edelbrocks though its all what you learn to work on.
