How far from the speedo is the end of the cable?
Ive only had to remove mine once so I dont have to much experience with them but, I thought I had mine plugged in but it would not register so I went back up in there and I grabbed hold of the black part of the cable and just shoved it on. It works now. You should hear a click when it goes back on.

It should just slip right back in?

Remove the ashtray door and inner housing. You should then have enough room to reach your right hand in through the hole and plug the cable back into the instrument pod. You will feel the retainer snap when you have it right.

Ohh, I see what you are saying. With the cluster out enough to get your hand back there, the cable isn't sticking up enough to clip it into the cluster. My '74 Grabber was like, I used to just lay on the floor and stick my hand up through the bottom of the dash and push it in that way. It can be a pain...

yeah, i took out the ash tray but there is something in the way kinda like sheetmetal, also there is something between the column and cluster so i cant get to it from the bottom. I'll be putting in the insulation and carpet in on wednesday so i'll try it again.

Also, I've had to keep car level, leave in neutral, and slowly roll car to line up cable to the speedo.
