Any one recommend a good quiet electric fuel pump. I currently have a Holly blue elec pump but is driving me nuts, even mounted on rubber isolators it can be heard over my 3" Flowmasters. Suggestion please
i like the holley blue. i can even here it over the noise of my engine. i would like to find a reasonable priced electric for the sprint. i just picked up a mezeire electric billet aluminum for the 71. ($350) not sure if it works on the street. hopefully it'll be quiter than the holley but i won't know until i freshen the motor. probably by the end of the year.
WHAT!?! i cant hear you over the all pumps running i have holley red , havent fired it up so i dont know how loud it is.... is there a right/wrong way to mount them?
Ditto, its not a vane style like the holleys. Mallorys are a gerotor style, this is what makes them quieter.
How about a factory replacement late 80's Ford F150 EFI pump? They're plenty quiet....and if you get an adjustable regulator, you can turn the pressure down to sane levels. Had one on my old '74....when it had a turbo.
At least if the holley is humming, you know it is WORKING (look at all the clouds, and they have a SILVER LINING! )
if my fuel press gauge is on zero i know my pump isnt working. if its on 8 i kno its working. noise is unnecessary.
Yeah, but you really should keep your eyes on the road, and not on those gauges. When the pump gives out, you will instantly recognize it when it becomes a quiet drive...
scoop hit that one. when the electric went out on my old high boy, it took me a couple seconds of listening to figure out why the engine had shut off and forced me to pull over. but not much more than that because as silent as the pump is, it still is easy to hear with the motor off
I have a Holley red, and it's driving me nuts, not loud, but annoying noise. Why are these pumps so noisy? I thought it was because mine was old, but it looks like brand new. I plan to install some kind of a rubber bushing to isolate it from the body.
I have a pump I bought at NAPA. It is a generic external (not in tank) and has a very low hum. Forgot the name, but I've used them for years on cars that I got rid of mechanical pumps. Cost less then $40. It's been on my hotrod for 10 years. Not for a race car as it is low pressure low volume but higher then a hipo mechanical pump.
