I have always wanted to try heads-up racing, well my pockets are not that deep. so they started running some heads-up e.t. limit classes around here (I know Stephen said they do it in the Carolina's). Last year they had a 6.50 & 7.50 class.....way to slow for the 6.50 class. Had thought about dabbling in the 7.50 class this year but never got around to it. Well, they are "talking" about having a 7.00 class next year which would be great. But regardless, to make a long story longer.....I am going to get some good exhaust on the PINK one, slow her down and run one of these heads-up classes next year. Good points: 1) Rules are pretty bare. Exhaust Break lights Liscense plate Obvious NHRA rules for speed/e.t. 2) they only run once a month, so it will not interrupt family time to much.
sounds ok to me... its easy to slow a car down and make it consistant.. keep us posted on the work good luck
Those are realy fun races to compete in. I built my car to go 7.50 heads up here locally a few years ago. did pretty well. Until thay just stoped running 7.50 and several other tracks followed suit also to go 7.0 and i havent been able to do it yet cause the pig just wont go. There is alot of really good drivers here in ga. that will kill a tree on a heads up race. Will yours be 400 or 500 pro tree or sportsman?
Around here, the 7.00 Index (1/8th mile) has a pretty good payout (relatively speaking). Typically, there is one race a month with a $750 1st place payout (runner-up gets $300). There are other tracks that have Jackpot races that can have similar payouts. The "contendah's" in the Indexes usually have overly wide tires, transbrakes, and always knows something about the guy in the other lane (what his car is capable of running, does he always stay a fender ahead (ie., sandbagging - cant' stand losing), is he susceptibleto being pushed through the lights, etc). IMO, (and I realize there are some on this board who can easily contradict what I'm about to say - Porter for one) but, stay away from Nitrous if you can. It's another variable in the equation that 'can' have an impact on your consistancy. Having a sub-7 second car and having the luxury of slowing it down (taking timeing out for example) is a definite advantage. You can always go slower than what your car is capable of. Good luck! My
never thought about that come on down...it will/should be fun .400 pro I have thought about that....nitrous makes me nervous thats already working for a different "special" project it would be easier to get it from Pinky..I like too eat way too much I think that is what most of them do, the majority of the win lights come from the other guy breaking-out due to the winner putting the tree on them. I am excited about it....really just excited about making some laps next year
John check the rules and see if they allow a throttle stop....IMO the best way to slow the car down and gain a measure of consistency....the light is gonna be a booger...personally I hate a .400 pro tree, maybe it's easier footbraking off this light but it's a pain using a box. Rick B. no contradiction from me on using nitrous...I know my car is the exception not the rule when it comes to using the bottle...I found that out Sunday when I ran that 5.34..I had bumped the shot from a 100 to 150...made a 5.41 pass and was running lean and on the limiter at the traps...removed the chip..backed 4 degrees out of the timing and it goes 5.34, didn't get a chance to make another pass but I don't think it would have the consistency as it did with the 100 shot.
Usually these heads up index classes do not allow any type of "bracket racing aids". IE: throttle stop, delay box, etc. Only time I've used nitrous in an index style race was for the "Oooops" factor. If the starting line went away and the car broke the tires loose or say it sneezed going downtrack or stumbled. Something like that would warrant a quick tap of the nitrous button to make up for the boo-boo. It is NOT a remedy for snoozing at the tree.
checked the rules...no throttle stops at either track that runs the 7.50 class. I have never "really" ran a PRO tree.......doesn't look that hard its got to be easier on a footbrake guy then sitting there watching those bulbs flash on and off.....those pretty lights makes my mind wonder off into the holidays
