Need advice from you engine guys 1. Has anybody used roller tip rockers? Found rockers from cat racing products 16 for only $66.65 Are the roller tip rockers better than stock? Should I stick with 1.6 ratio or go to 1.7? 2. My engine is as far as I know a 1976 351W 040 over stock pistons and bottom end, 1970 or 71 302 heads (drilled), Edelbrook performer 351, Holley it now has a stock 302 cam, runs good and has a plenty of power. I'm not going to race this car, but I sometimes have to show the lawn-mover guys the power of a 351W. I have a brand new Clevite 77 camshaft kit with the following specifications: · Lift 472/496 · Adv. duration 280/290 · Duration @.050" 214/224 · Lobe sep. 107/117 Should I install this cam or just forget the whole thing?
what kinda springs you have? if you have some deicent springs go w/ 1.7 , gives you more cam for less, im not sure how much lift you can do w/ stock springs
If you can get the roller rockers with a roller fulcrum not just the tip. If you cant i wouldnt get just the roller tips. 1.7's are nice also. I'v used them with great success.
I would run that cam. With stock springs I would stick to 1.6:1 rockers. Most stock springs don't like to go over .500 lift and your head's flow probably levels off by then anyway. Better breathing heads would be an even bigger help. Roller tip rockers prevent side loading off the valve guides and friction on the valve tip but their gains are minimal. Most of the friction in a rocker arm occurs at the fulcrum.
Yes, They are available with "rail" rockers. They help to eliminate wear on the valve stem and guide. If you want really low friction then get the complete roller rockers that have roller brgs in the fulcrum and the tip. Comp Cams sells the same set up with rail or non-rail rockers. I have only used the 1.6 (standard ford ratio) as I believe that the extra lift is hard on the cam and the valve.
