Strictly does not do machine work. They use USA Racing Engines (The Wop Shop) for that. Given your location you should stick with B&G. They're good guys to work with.
What about parts? Is the Clear lake place, or the Hobby place, the closest thing to me? Anything on south or southwest Houston? I go to the Summit area often (remember the Summit, before it became that church?). I go by Johns Mustangs area fairly often, once or twice a month (59 at 610, or beltway 8 between 288 and 10). Or, maybe I should just ask, "where are the good speed shops in the Houston area?" and choose from them.
Depends on what type of "parts" you're after. For just about any speed parts I use Texas Performance. If I don't get there on Saturday after they close at noon, then I usually go to Clear Lake Speed. Day in and day out it's hard to beat the prices and selection you find at Texas Performance.
As A Ford Parts Manager...if One Of My Countermen Talked To A Customer Like That They Would Be On The Outside Looking In.....customer Service Is What Its All About....if We Don't Have A Part In Stock And Give The Customer The Respect They Deserve They Will Wait To Get The Part Versus Having The Part In Stock And Giving Them A Hard Time They Will Never Come Back....heck I Will Even Go To A Chevy Dealer To Get A Part For A Customer
Well, I will not do any more business directly with John, but I still might buy parts from him through his countermen. John pretty much has a monopoly on the parts I need in this area. Anything non-ford and I will go to those other places Shadow mentioned. Shadow, it seems to me that Clear Lake has little in stock...everytime I go there, they end up having to order my parts, and I think they just call Jegs right after I leave. So usually, I just go straight to Jegs or Summit. I was impressed with TX Performance. They have good stock, and will let you mess with it before you buy it (take it out of the box and look at it all).
I'm serious. When I worked for Shell Oil in Deer Park the union went on strike for five months. I went to work at Texas Performance during that time. Got plenty of calls from Clear Lake Speed......and John's Mustang. :evilsmile
Not to hijack or bring back from the dead, does anyone else think this guys typing style looks like taillightsteve from ebay? What bad memories those were.
I had a "know it all" parts counter guy fuming when i tried to get a pinion bearing and race for a 9 inch rear which happened to be in my oval track late model. I even brought the old parts in and he says "that doesn't mean anything to me, what's it in?" So I told him- -1982 Monte Carlo. Well, he went to the books for 15 minutes without asking another question or even looking at me. He looked up from his parts book and finally said "no Monte Carlos ever came with a 9 inch rear". I just told him "you asked me what it was in and I told you". I don't go back there anymore.
