hey. On my '73 Comet it came with the stock aluminum slot mags. 14in rim and 6 or 6.5in wide. it has 205/75/r14's on it now and i want a wider tire on the back. i've heard a 215/60/r14 would fit and look pretty good on it. so does anyone know if it will fit on the wheel. and with that tire on that rim will it hit the leaf springs? thanks for your help:)

They are 7 inches wide and they are close to the leafs on the drivers side but they dont rub enough for me to put a spacer in . I think the slots have less backspacing on them so you should be fine. I think Dan Hines has those wheels with 60s on them so you can check his car out at http://homepage.mac.com/dmhines/PhotoAlbum62.html

thanks for all your help. my comet doesn't look so tough with those 75's on it. especially with the white walls still on the out side.

One thing about 215/60's on the back, they're a fair amount smaller than stock, so it's like a gear change, and will really wake up your car off the line. When I did it, my speedometer read very high (though it may not have been off as far as I originally thought..). Now I'm running the same wheel/tire combo as Tim (my comet gt)

Actually I have 215/70's all the way around on my car. You can do 235/60's on a 6" Rim but there is no manufacturer that recommends it ... I have a set of factory 5-lug steel 6" rimswith 205/70's in the front and 235/60's in the back ... the diamater is almost identical and gives some extra grip in the rear with the wider tires ...

yeah, i got the 205/70's there now. but i want the widest i can put on these 14x6's with out hitting any thing or scrubbing the trim off the wheel wells of the 1/4 panels. so you think a 235/60 will fit? and does anyone know of a good, long lasting white letter tire???

i am running cooper cobra 225/65/14 on the rear of my 71 and they fit perfect. send me a p.m. and i will email you some pics if you want. 225 is the largest cooper recommends on a 6" wheel.
