I may be getting a 1976 maverick and wanted to put small bumpers but was wondering if i could make the stock bumpers more appealing any ideas pics would be helpful

Do a search for "Futura bumpers"
We were talking about this last week.
The Fairmont/Futura/Zephyrs have bumpers that are almost like our big bumpers, with a couple of important differences.

They are aluminum and MUCH lighter.
They are already "slid" back on the car when stock, so they would be ideal as a option for the so called "bumper slide" mod on our cars.
They don't wrap around the fender as far either because they are pre-slid, so they wouldn't interfere with the side marker lights like the Mav bumpers do when slid.

We did some pics and measurements and the size and shape of the bumper (side to side) is almost identical in every way, however they are not as bulky in general as the Mav bumper. I can picture this bumper installed and slid on a Maverick and I don't imagine it much larger than a 73 bumper myself. I doubt it can be done without drilling, but that's about it from what I can tell.

I just used the big bumpers on mine. I sucked the front one in towards the car about 4" and it does look 100% better. Probably am going to do the same with the rear one as well. I can get some pics of the front one if you want them. I probably went in too far with it, but I think 3" is a good compromise.

IMO, the small bumpers look best on the Comets. They just look out of place (to me) on the Mavericks.

Depending on your creativity, big bumpers can look good.
I shortened my mounts, eliminated my marker lights and painted the bumpers body color.
