I am planning to go with a 302 out of a 85-6 thunderbird with c5. Leaning towards edelbrock rpm cam, 3.89 gears ~28" tires. For any one using a something similar to this combo what intake are you using, and how do you like it. Thanks for any info.
I would be intrested in knowing how the C5 works when you get it in, Are you going to use the lockup converter? P.S. BLOWER INTAKE with blower and i LOVVVVVE IT.
love my air gap.. I would offer a couple of suggestions a nice 650cfm carb and some headers and loosen up the convertor a little rpm cam runs 2500-6500 it's a revver.. you might find you will need 4.10s with those 28 inch tall tires or more..
which air gap do you have? "4.10s" yea all the specifics are still up in the air. I have a set of 4.11 that will fit the factory rear end, but i also have a 9" axle with the 3.89's and i would prefer to go 9". All this stuff so far is "free" stuff, and i am trying to keep the budget down for now. 28" tires, well this is not in stone either. Our first maverick we ran on the strip had 28"s on and it looked really mean. Buy anyways. 650 cfm has been noted and thanks for the reply.
Performer RPM or RPM Air gap,also if you use a cam that big with a stock converter it will be a dog off the line and at low rpm.I would be looking into a good 10" conv. Derek.
ditto... or air gap (same crap) if you wanna spend a little more. others can swear by other intakes but think about it... this is the newest one on the market and it has been proven even over their other manifolds.

I picked the smaller one for drivability and the 650 baseplates are identical to the 800 cfm baseplates.. swap the carb body and wallah instant bigger carb.. (reason I picked a hp vrs a standard 650cfm dp it has the 850 dp baseplate already) I have a 750 vacuum carb also.. I will see if it wants a bigger carb in the future .. I will let you know my results
I have a old torker 289 needing repair (broken bolt and drilled out carb mounting holes) I want to experiment with be intresting to see old school vrs new school I'll get it repaired and ported to match the rpm heads and see what happens
thanks for all of the input, so far seems like the air gap is the intake of choice. your torker 289 will need some rpm. we have one we have tried on several different 302 combos, and we could never get any power under 2500 rpms. We actually just took it off of the engine in the car now and put our old faithful Cobra intake back on (this thing has worked with everyting, dad just won't part with it even for me) with the torker on the (4500 stall) the car would not stall any more than 2000, and would bog at take off until around 3000-3500 rpm. With the cobra we can stall all lthe way up to 3000~3500 and have instant response. this is on a 302 stock winsor heads high compresson pistons, mechanical flat tappet cam.
I have a 6600 rpm pill in the 2 step now(it's the highest one I have).. I'm thinking of buying a 7000 rpm set.. rpm isn't the issue > (love those solid cams and roller valve train)
funny enough I ran the torker for years on a stock motor it's not as bad as you think, it was originally designed in the mid 70's to fit stock port heads.. it's considered a small-medium plenum intake only real problem i had with it is the "carb dimple" in my hood. response from that intake to this intake is unknown I broke the bolt off the thermostat housing when I put the new heads on.. forcing me to buy a new intake. I'm not done with this 30 year old intake yet..
