    Transmission went out!

I had the C4 in my sons Mav (250) rebuilt about a year ago. Had a TransGo shift kit installed, new converter. Last week my my son said he heard a loud POP just as it shifted to second and after that it wouldn't pull in any grear. I am NOT happy!
I know that 250 shouldn't have grenaded it! I should have it and the engine out sometime this week and then back to the tranny shop i go.
Looks like the 306 is going in soon.

That sucks. I see you are in GA. What are you doing with the 250? I'll take it off your hands if you're going to junk it.

Well, keep me in mind when you decide.

We need a mini meet, where everyone that says they are going to show up, actually shows up. ;)

when that happened to me shifting 2-3, it was the turbine hub in the converter shattering. if the converter was an inexpensive street/strip converter with the stock turbine hub in it, they are not very durable. just a guess.

Thanks. Cool, maybe that is it. I hope so. This was just a stock replacement converter that the shop got for me. If it is the converter I will upgrade.

Are you going to run the same tranny with your V8?
If so you might want to have it upgraded to the V8 specs so that you have at least 4 or 5 clutches in each hub. The six cylinder trannys only use three in the forward pack - it will begin to slip soon after the V8 is installed. The TransGo kit is a good kit but it will not make a 6 cyl. C4 hold the power of a V8.

Turns out the torque converter DID strip out. I am going to upgrade to something stonger with a lil' more stall speed. My transmission guy is cleaning out the tranny for no charge and seeing if the company will warranty the converter eventhough its over a year old now.
Amazing that the lil 250 broke the converter but I'm telling you this tranny shifts extremely HARD!

    BadBrad73,
Did you let your transmission builder know that you were going to put it behind a V8? He might upgrade it for free while he has it apart.
