My radiator on top has sprung a leak on the top of the tank where it has the seam that meets the rest, I took the car to the radiator shop and the owner say's it could be recored for $110.00, I know I can buy another cheaper, and some have more tanks for better cooling. I am trying to keep it original, but does the extra cooling add that much to engine life, if so I guess I can put a new one in and just keep the original, also does any have the web address or name for the place or places that has all the goodies/or dress up items like different color covers for the radiator hoses and misc other items for 302's, Thanks for any idea's and suggestions.
for that kind of money, make sure he gives you a good warranty. i had mine rodded out and a couple small leaks fixed for 65 bucks.
That seems like a lot of money for a repair. I'd buy a new one for that amount of $$. Try Auto Radiator Outlet, 1-800-252-0333. They're very reasonable and the price includes overnight shipping. I've bought two rads from them, one Mav and one Subaru and no complaints. As to the dress items, try Summit, Jegs, JC Whitney to name a few. All are online.
Have your radiator tanks resealed AND have it recored with an extra row or two. That will keep it as original as possible with extra cooling. You can get your dress up kit at Doug Herbert Performance Parts at 1 (800) 444-7373, Ext. 106 ask for Larry.
My local radiator shop said they can no longer get cores for radiators with the large tanks like the original Maverick radiators. Anyone else have this issue? I ended up getting a 1970 Mustang 302 Radiator and it looks identical.
That sounds right. It should be a 20" radiator from a non A/C ' stang. Also, to drop your engine's operating temp.10-15 degrees you can pick up a '69 - '70 'stang fan shroud for the 20" They are available for 50 to 70 green backs. RTFLDGR
I could have had mine recored....but for $50 more I could get a totally NEW radiator....so I went that route.
When you can get a new radiator for $2-$300 why try to have an old one repaired? The flange at the top of Ford radiators is infamous for fatigue cracking - in order to fix it you have to replace the upper tank. Why patch one spot to have another crack in a short time.
