What window nets have you used in your cars? Any pictures? I got my cage finished yesterday, now just window net mounting and paint. I have one door bar, running the usual place, from the hoop just below your shoulder to the bottom of the front hoop. It is a swing out door bar.
M & R will custom make one for you if a standard won't fit. I haven't used their net but have bought a couple of sets of tie-downs from them. http://mrproducts.com/
where are you putting the bottom mount? bottom mount must be permanent. how will you put it to a swingout bar? have both ends of top bar pop loose & then entire net swings out with bar? i use a g-force ribbon type net.
I now have a plan. I am attaching it on the bottom rear with a tab with a hole in it, the bottom front to the swing out bar, with a swaged cable and quick disconnect, probably a carabiner, and then on the top, it will use a standard tab in the rear and latch in the front. I don't see anything in the NHRA rulebook that says you can't put it to the swing out bar, but that doesn't mean I overlooked it.
section 6.3 the permanet attachment must be at the bottom of the net. sounds like you want to put a disconnect (carabiner) at the bottom, if i understand what you're saying correctly. if not, just ignore me.
Thanks for the input. I do see where it says permanent, but I am thinking permanent can be loosely translated to mean not just a rod stuck in a hole. Yes, the carabiner would be put in the bottom. I technically do not have to have one, so I am hoping they do not get real serious about it. They allow you to have a swing out bar, so I am thinking you should be able to disconnect from the bar to allow you to get in and out. But, you never know.
long time ago a tech guy told me why the top must be the disconnect. if you try to stage without fastening the net, its obvious, cause the net will be down out of sight. if the bottom was the disconnect, the staging guys couldnt easily see if its fastened or not. one thing i have seen that you could think about. have both ends of the top bar clip. you can undo both, set the net down on the bar and swing the net out with the swingout bar. some techs at tracks are picky. i had a roll bar in a car that did not require it. i was required to have a 4 way harness because of the bar, & it had to be recert every 2 years. if i had not installed the roll bar, i could have run with a 15 yr old oem seatbelt, with no hassles. chances are if you have the net in the car, it had better be right. by the way, dont get a string net: their date expires. ribbon type doesnt expire.
Thanks for the tip on the ribbon net. I will talk to the local track guys about it. Technically, because my car runs between 10.00 and 10.99(or it will real soon), and with an unmodified floor or firewall, I only have to have a roll BAR. And the rules say that a window net is only required if the rules require you to have a roll CAGE. But like you say, since I have one it may be now required. Attaching the entire thing at the bottom to the swing out bar may be the trick.
