Guys I am going to pull 302 & c-4 out of one of my Mavs today. First time in about 30 years. Just have a couple questions. Car has AC. How do I drain freon or do I try to clamp off the hoses. Hope it's not a stupid question. Also I can leave tranny attached & pull together I hope? Thanks for any input you want to share on this subject. Things to watch out & be carefull of etc..:tiphat:
    Thanks

Mike, if at all possible, try to leave the ac system sealed and save the freon...may not be possible though. Unless you have a system that will capture the freon, you could see if a shop will capture it for you. Just some ideas...otherwise, sssssssssssss.
Pull the eng and trans together and plug the trans before you do. Otherwise get ready for a spill. I pulled several without pluging and just followed the tail with a big pan.
I tend to take my grill off so that I wont damage it also. Good luck.(y)

Thanks for the tips Gene. Already had a major Anti Freeze spill.:rant2: Pit Cock valve was broke so when I remove it there was so much pressure it missed my catch pan only by about 5 feet. On the AC I was wondering if there were certain connections on there that would seal off after you loosen it sort of like a valve stem on a tire?

The only ones I have seen that would seal off are on older Dodge makes.

Over doing it a little there, ay Frank? :)

I'll bet your steaks are as tough as boot leather (when Effie's not cooking them FOR you... and that's only when she gets the time between sanding your car, mowing the lawn, paying bills, doing the taxes, changing out ceiling fans and garbage disposals, doing fence repair, roofing the house, picking up your dry-cleaning, mopping your shop, or wiping your .... ). :biglaugh:

legally the only way to break AC lines is to have the system fully evacuated by a licensed HVAC tech.

But everyone has their own way of doing things...including myself:rolleyes:

Pull the engine & trans as a unit. An old yoke stuffed into the back of the trans makes a lot less mess. Other than that, it's pretty easy once you get it off the mounts.

Guys I did get the engine & tranny out today.:yup: The plans are to repaint car. Getting engine out of the way so the engine bay area can be painted also. What works the best to clean the engine bay? I have been told Oven Cleaner & also Purple Power. Any other suggestions?

I hope you bought Effie a slicker suit to wear when she cleaned that pig sty.

    I have 7 now. It is a sickness!:yup:

This is a 74 Grabber that I picked up a month or two ago. It is 302, C-4, AC, PS, Front Disc, Bucket Seats with Floor Shift. Black Interior is excellent. Car runs & drives perfect. I know the paint process will take a while but I am excited.:)

I used oven-cleaner on mine, & let it sit for a day. when I came back to wash it off, some paint came with it. perfect for cleaning old grease & grime. I also used a small brush for around the steering box, & master cylinder

A little late now, but be aware that your neighbor can get around a $13000 (yes, no decimals) reward for turning you in for venting freon into the air.

No worry, system was empty. AC didn't work. Found out one of the lines were busted.
